This is a mirror of the now defunct eesite ASOIAF webboard. The discussions for G.R.R. Martin's awesome series "A Song of Ice and Fire" are now being held at: Current ASoIaF Webboard You cannot post new messages to this board. Continued from Why is the SoS II-board still down?
As I've noted, I've been fiddling with Ezboard. I've set up a customized ASoIaF board which retains much the same looks as this board, with some added bells and whistles as far as images go (to match the title banner.)
It can be found at:
http://pub26.ezboard.com/basoiaf
I've marked it so Ezboard does not require registration, with the restriction that an unregistered poster may not use the names of any registered persons (not sure whether this means global and local registers across the system, or whether this means )
I'm still fiddling with other things, but mainly I'd like people to look at it and decide whether switching to Ezboard is of interest to them.
If so, what would probably happen is that all the topics would be closed to new posting, and plenty of pointers to the new board will be provided.
It's a hassle, but as has been noted, Echelon (owners of eesite) are increasingly scarce in maintenance (I've still to get a reply about the loss of SoSII) since they were bought out by Swirve.com. The board has also always had its little errors, like posts showing up blank before the 100 post limit is reached, and so on.
Ezboard seems to have a very active support system, on the other hand.

So this will be the fourth board, right? I remember Dragonstone, then this board, and now the EZ Board. IIRC, there was another Board pre-Dragonstone. Before my time, though. Anyone here a veteran of all four Boards? Ran? LindaElane?

There certainly was a pre-Dragonstone board, although by the time I found it, it was basically abandoned, IIRC.
It's a pretty nostalgic feeling leaving here, really...it's 'only' been one-and-a-half years...and, from my quick perusal of it, nearly 35.000 posts in that time period.
This community really has grown...

Far as I recall, the Dragonstone maintainer had one board which went kaput rather quickly, and switched to another that lasted for awhile before that one went dead. Then Revanshe started this board and the rest, as they say, is history.
I admit, I feel a few pangs of sadness and nostalgia, too. This place has done good service.

I have to say, this has gone very, very quickly. But I have registered on the other board already. It's kind of fitting, I suppose, now that the first half of the hexology is done.

I admit, it's a bit quicker than I used to imagine ... but hal9000 convinced me that doing it quickly would be the easiest and most painless way to go about it. It looks to be going all right.

Pre-Dragonstone ... Was that the one that used Discussion software or something? If so, I still miss that one. Yes, everything got crammed together, but there was a nice catch-up feature. We seem to be averaging a board a book...Oh well, heres to the next year and a half and more wild theories and off topic discussion than can be imagined!

Dear friends -
I am sorry you folks are going to have to move - and with all the work you already do, I hope this new burden will not break you all.
I'm going over to check on the privacy policy of this new board - because I do not register for 'free' accounts unless I know that my info is protected.
If I do not find their privacy policy up to my standards, I'll be reading the new messages, but will be unable to answer them. If you need to contact me for any reason, please use "[email protected]"
You might want to delete the whole t-shirt thread, and we can put up something basic about the shirts when I catch my breath.
Oh - and I had a crash on my main earthlink account today and lost all mail and addresses, so if you haven't heard from me in the next week, responding to your message, please send me a note at mysticspiral and see I have still have the message.
still sounding like Minnie Mouse on helium...
with love

Parris,
No worry on the account of thing. Several people have been taking part on the board without any need of registering. :)

The last time I went through the registration process over at the EZ board (last spring) I started getting a lot of junk e-mails and stuff like that, so I'm leery of the "registering" process as well. I'll still be stopping by the new board from time to time, however.
Ran, the new board seems kinda slow--or is it just me? Oh well. At least the Dragonsworn board [knocks feverishly on wood] is operating just fine at the moment. :)

There are a few burps, I've noticed, where it takes a little bit to load up the page. But generally it runs faster than Dragonsworn for me.
