Out of pure virtual cynism, the Thread "Nominate Topics to Delete" where we discussed the technical problems of this board, is broken.

Here's the new one. Ran, as the Moderator of this board, works hard to deal with the upsoming problems.
One of those seems to be the breaking down of thread out of thin air. We suppose that a deletion of topics might help, but we hesitate to do this without saving the discussion somewhere else. Therefore, we still look for people willing to archivate some topics or threads.

Volunteers for this may email to Ran himself. I quote his last post from the other thread:
"If anyone stumbles across problems in threads elsewhere (some threads I skip, not being interested in them), please feel free to mail [email protected] to notify me about it and I'll see what I can do".

We should all back up Ran in is efforts, he is working hard to keep this board up.

Hey, we're just grateful that you agreed to make the effort! No need to be sorry.

First, welcome back, Watcher! I began asking myself where you have been hiding. :-)

Second, I think there's no need to apologize. No one else volunteered to do this excessive work, and as you do it deliberately, there would be no way of forcing you anyway. I am really surprized and glad to hear that you plan on doing it in such a professional way. And we will all be very grateful for what you will be doing for us and the board, watcher.
I suppose you already did that, but you should email Ran and inform him that the archiving is about to start now, just in case he didn't read that (though I suppose he will - he seems to read each and every post on this board :-)).

Oh, not each and every post, but I keep track of most of them. ;)

Thanks for the update, Watcher. If you need any help with anything, feel free to mail and I'll see what I can do.

In the interest of clearing more space because of the recent spate of thread creationand the obvious indication it is towards a desire to keep conversations going, I've worked at some things. A list follows of the recent changes:

* The ICQ Anyone? thread has been folded into the E-mail index. ICQ Anyone? will be deleted tomorrow around this time.

* The invitation to play the Forche RPG elsewhere has been deleted, since there wasn't much interest. If Neptune would like to re-new the invitation, I suggest he try it in Announcements perhaps. Plenty of room there.

* Nominate Topics to Delete has been deleted. It was broken in any case.

* Board Admin has been deleted. I'll be using this thread -- even if it's not very well named -- for the subject of reporting on anything being done to fix matters.

* An Invintation has been deleted, since Swithin has now begun the game on The Game board. I'm debating whether Roll Call should go, since its primary purpose (I gather) was to compile a list of possible players. However, given that it is useful for seeing how many relatively active people we have, I think I'll give it a reprieve for an indeterminate amount of time.

* Deleted The Good Doctor -- A Board about Asimov, The Hyperion Cantos, and Discussions about the Culture threads of SF discussion and combined them into one thread titled "SF by other Authors". I know it's awkward for discussion, but hopefully it will sort itself out. The first two threads have been inactive for awhile, so I hold out hope that discussion will come in slow and relatively orderly fashion.

I intend to do the same as I did with the SF discussions for the various discussions of GRRM's non-ASoIaF works. Not today, however. Perhaps tomorrow, if I can muster the energy.

I've trimmed the Recommended Reading thread some of posts that were very short and not specific to the thread, and largely inconsequential -- and primarily mine. ;) Plus, I knocked off Ser Gary's question (and my response) concerning the release of _Lord of Emperors_, as it's kind of a moot point now.

So, feel free to continue posting for a little more.

More trimming.

I've shifted all discussion of GRRM's other work in dedicated threads to G.R.R.M's Other Writings. I believe that nets us a grand total of 3 extra threads. ;)

I've also trimmed some things which I said I would trim and had forgotten to. The reason for this recent spate of trimming is a sudden scare when I realized that the CoK board had hit a hundred threads, and I was just able to trim some dead threads away. I'm going to look into what more can be done to trim things there.

And more trimming.

The Robotech and the Preacher thread has been moved to the underused 'The Books we Read' thread, and will be deleted in a couple of days.

The Lord of Emperors (possible spoilers) thread has been moved to the dead-in-the-water Tigana thread (with suitable warning of spoilers and spoiler space), and will also be deleted in a couple of days.

And more trimming.

Just about everything mentioning or relating to F******* is gone, as well as related anti-spoiler silliness.

I was okay with leaving the silly stuff up, as it was an amusing attempt at a hoax, until the point that someone crossed the line and continued spreading misinformation using the names of other posters. Bad, bad, bad.

Goodness, we've a live one. Bellomo/Ser Alucard/Ser Dennis/etc. has decided to take a turn impersonating me. Fortunately, he has neither my charm nor wit, so it should be easy to tell who is who. ;)

However, do note the User ID on my posts for a time.

He's done Ser Gary as well.

Did he? I hope he had the good sense to use a lot of commas, run-on sentences, and the other things I've tried to incorporate into my sentence structure, which I'm quite proud of, despite the fact that others might ridicule me for it, right? Uh, question marks, too. I use a lot of question marks. Do I?

Very briefly, he tried. It's what I'm referring to in my post on the 6th. Silly git, heh.

Just wondering did anyone ever try deleting the first broken message in a broken topic? I persume that is possible. This might have been mentioned before or sound very silly but I could see how it would make a difference. Then again I could also see how it would make no difference at all, but i'm curious enough to mention it.

I propose that "A storm of Swords" board should be closed to new topics. I mean, a lot of topics there are eaten already and it could be fun to compare our predictions with the actual happenings in ASOS...

I think that is a good idea. Keeping the Storm of Swords 2 board for spoilers about the actual book was a good idea. But now with the probable further months wait, time is against us. There is plenty room in the Clash of Kings 3 board for any further pre-aSoS debate.

Things still get discussed on aSOS board, and unless you've read the book there is nowhere else to write threads that are specifically aimed there.

Why couldn't old links on the first two Clash of Kings boards be removed first? There must be some really old links there. And what about that 'the game'? From what I can see that appears very dead.

Apparently there can only be 100 threads on each board. The aSoS board has reached that limit. I'm sure I must have discussed aSoS in the aCoK boards and vice-versa. There will only really be a difference between the 2 once aSoS is actually released.

Back from vacation (three cheers), and I've closed new thread creation in the SoS thread. I think. ;)
