Most of us have discussed out favorite character from ASOIAF, but I was wondering about our respective favorite characters from all of the fantasy each of us have read.
My first pick is Samwise Gamgee from the Lord of the Rings. The heart of a true hero.
My second is Corwin from Roger Zelazny's first Amber series. I just really liked his smart-mouthed sense of humor.

First of all sorry for appropriating your name in the above post.
Second, I just got an e-mail from Kate Elliott.
Anyway, who do you like from the Jaran books?
I like Charles, Anatoly, Vasha and surprised myself with this one, I really felt sorry for Prince Janos.

I was checking connection to German history and turns out, I was right about them.
But most importantly she said that the book is coming out in September in England...

I might have missed something earlier on Ants, but several of GGK's stuff is just single volume stories, namely A Song for Arbonne, the Lions of Al-Rassan and Tigana. They should be safe to jump into.
He has written a couple of series the Fionaver Tapestry(a trilogy) and the Sarantine Mosaic (a duology).
Although I have only read the Lions of Al-Rassan so I can't guarantee this info. Everything else is on my extended reading list.

I'd go with Mat and Min from WoT. I like Mat's attitude and Min is one of the few Wetlander women who doesn't annoy me, but then again she is neither a noble nor an Aes Sedai, which is the problem with most of the annoying women.

Is all of WOT from Rand's pov? Because so far I would say it is. And so far, the whole thing seems to view men and women as horribly, irreconcilably different. And Rand seems like he is afraid of women or else they make him nervous when he is young. All well and good, I imagine a lot of young guys feel that way. Does RJ ever write about a woman who would not make a man nervous or irritated or both?
Well Moraine only makes men nervous because she is so powerful. The rest of the women though....pah....we really are not that bad. But if its Rand's POV and thats how he sees things, I can allow for that.

Nope, not all of WoT is from Rand's PoV...how far have you read, anyway?
As for RJ's thoughts (or lack thereof) of the Randland male-female relationships; the less said about that, the better. :P

You know nothing, Linda! Grin. It is how RJ generally depicts his female characters.
I dislike both Mat and after-TSR Min, BTW. Mat is just a drifter and a wencher who is shepherded towards great destiny by an extremely heavy use of deus ex machina. Yes, he is occasionally witty and very occasionally tries to save his friends of his own free will as in TDR. But generally Mat would have been an almost complete nonentity without his vast array of supernatural gadgets and authors taveren stick.
Min has no other goal in life apart from winning and subsequently propping up her man. I guess that is what makes her so popular with the guys...
My favourite WOT characters are Moraine, Lan, Thom and Siuan, with Gareth Bryne close behind. I used to like pre-TFOH Perrin, too, but absolutely hated his storyline in TPOD, so he is out.
