Season 5 episode 1 - A DAY TO REMEMBER.

The episode opens with a very dodgy looking tug boat tour, it is full of rust and happy sightseers, there is a helicopter buzzing around above them, it doesn't take long for them to realise the helicopter is out of control and heading for them. People start to panic, some dive in the water and some go down below, the helicopter gets closer and falls into the water next to them.
At HQ everyone is dressed in blue overalls runnning down to the boats, Jeff yells after them and with instructions,he wants any ferry in the area and has put the marine disaster plan in the area, no heroics, the boats take off. Now the rescue operation begins.There are people in the water everywhere, Helen radios Jeff and says there are heaps in the water, she's not sure how many are dead, Jeff says he'll set up a temporary morgue. Mick, Jack and Alex diver into the water and pull people out, while Tommy and Gavin get into the boat to rescue people, they can smell petrol.Lance Roarke wants Emma Woods to dive with them to get the helicopter pilot, but she's busy getting people out of the boat which is surrounded by fuel. The detectives pull out a little boy from the water, they start CPR, but he's already dead. Jack cries out, oh come on he's only a kid, wanting Alex to continue CPR. THe divers puul dead people from the below the surface. Below the boat, the helicopter roter blade has gone thru the boat, blocking a person, the D's are about to leave, but there;s one more, a lady called Hillary, who Alex dives in and gets. Fires are breakign out on the boat, and Helen and the D's take the survivors and dead people back to HQ, Tommy informs Jeff of the people stuck below, the boat is taking in water, but not too much.
Back on the plontoon Jeff tells them the witnesses have said the rotor blades were still going, so it didn't stall or anything, maybe the pilot had a heart attack Alex suggests, Lance Rorke has retrieved the body Jeff tells them, so they'll know soon. Mick runs to the body of a boy, he was alive a couple of minutes ago, sorry Mick says Chopper who has an outdoor temporary morgue set up, he's dead. There is 7 dead and 8 in hospital. Jeff comments on the dogyness of tug boat tours, Mick asks who's going to take the rap now that the captain is dead, the body of the pilot comes over, he has a bullet hole in the back of his head.
Back at the boat, Emma is trying to stop it sinking, it's riddled with rust and holes and the captain should be shot for taking it out, too late Lance tells her. Chopper tells the D's the bullet hole doesn't resemble a suicide hole. Alex thinks it's possible that the person who shot the pilot may have survived, highly unlikely according to Jeff.
Back down below the boat, a husband and wife are trapped, the man, Rob is more worried about his wife Sarah than himself, he notices the water coming in, the rotor blade is cutting into her abdoman.
The D's are back in suits, there is no record of a passenger in the helicopter book, so Alex says, there is some reason he didn't want to register take someone with him or he's sloppy. The divers are looking for a gun, and Jeff wants them to get on with identifying the pilot. Mick says the captains dead so it's going to be hard to know how many were on board. Alex and Jack go to the hospital, while Mick gets onto the pilot.
Helen comes inside, only one person hasn't been identifed, a young boy, she goes to deliver the death messages, and takes Donna with her, Jeff wants them to find out if the victims were on the boat or helicopter. Donna looks horrified at having to go. She hands Helen a gift, it was found in the boat reckage by the divers, it's too a child from their mother, they take it with them.
Back inside the boat, Gavin and Tommy start cutting Sarah and Rob out, there are no pain killers, just Tommy's hand to squeeze.
The first message is to a frail old man, who doesn't understand what fatally injured means, Donna cries as Helen explains to the man his daughter isn't coming back.
At the hospital Alex catches up with Hillary, she asks questions about the boat and Hillary just says she wants it all to go away. She's in pain, but the doctors won't give her anything. Jack is talking to a guy who says he doesn't have I.D it was lost in the water, he's a bit sus. Alex comes up to Jack she has nothing, it looks like they're going to have to do background checks, they can't get anything out of anyone. Jack suspects the man he just talked too and watched him, they go after him and he runs, they tackle him and find his wallet, he was the first mate on the boat.
In the interview room he tells them he doesn't have a gun. Jack threatens him to talk or be charged. He tells them he told the captain to fix the boat.
Outside Jeff tells them he can't be charged as the deckhand. Jack wants him charged, they might not have caused the chopper crash, but had the boat been in better condition the people might have had a better chance. No word on the pilot from Mick and the divers have to stop the boat from sinking before they look for the gun.
The divers are stuffing hessian bags into the boats holes. Rob and Sarah are still trapped. Rob talks to her and tries to comfort her. Sarah tells Tommy Rob and her were school sweet hearts and Tommy's eyes are nice, thats what she first noticed about Rob. They are still trying to free the couple.
Back in the office Alex and Jack are trying to work out who the pilot was, Mick comes in and tells them it was a Colin Frang, he was seen to climb in with a woman, it was narrowed down to Hillary Kernagan.
Despite a call to the hospital to keep her there, Hillary has gone.
The band saw is out inside the boat trying to get out Sarah, she tells Tommy she knew Rob was the on in the school play Greece, he was the one who looked the best in the leather jacket. Rob tells Gavin they have been married 7 years, Rob tells Gavin the right one is out there. Rob is really worried about Sarah. He asks Gavin to tell her he loves her.
Jeff tells Alex and Jack on front counter that Mick found and address for Hillary, and asks Alex to tell Helen they found the other person in the helicopter. Helen says thanks, they're at the house where a little girl is out the front playing with the ball, her mothers not coming home, Donna hands Helen the present.
Alex and Mick are going to Hillary's, Mick found nothing on COPS about Colin, nothing to link him to Hillary. Mick asks Alex to take a call from a woman sounding stressed and worried.
In the office Alex picks up the phone, it's Hillary, she's confused and stressed, she asks Alex if shes ever been in love, and was she loved back. She says all those people are dead because of him, she won't answer as to whether it was Colin she was in love with. She asks Alex if he betrayed her, the man she loved, Alex answers yes in a way. It hurts doesn't it Alex says. Hillary hangs up after Alex wants her to come and talk to Alex. What was all that about Jack asks ? Alex can't figure it out.
At Hillary's house they meet her husband, he says that his wife has disappeared, he doesn't know why his wife was in a helicopter. He says Hillary was supposed to meet him for lunch but called from the office to say she didn't feel up to it. Hillary wasn't answering his calls so he came home, and none of her friends have heard from her. There's no other place Hillary is likely to go. Alex tells him Hillary calls her. Hillary's husband doesn't know Colin, and doesn't own a gun. He says he has a happy marriage, he doesn't suspect his wife of an affair. Jack and Alex go and look around, Hillary has lots of medication on her dresser, it's because she doesn't cope well, she's not strong. Alex says she's not crazy, just traumatized. Jack thinks she's guilty, Alex doesn't, they get back into the car and Jack quizzes Alex about the man she spoke about on the phone, her mobile rings, and she avoids the questions. Alex tells Jack they have to go to the chopper pilots place, from Micks request.
On front counter Jeff radios Tommy, the water is coming up and Jeff wants them out. Tommy says he has to get back to it when Gavin yells for his help. Jeff tells him he doesn't want them going down with the boat as well, Tommy tells him he's not leaving anyone behind.
At Colin's house the D's search. It's not much of a love nest, he's a bit of a cowboy as a pilot and there's a lot of stuff from Paupa New Guina around, no sign of anything female around, no makeup that Hillaryb was very into, so maybe they met elsewhere, or they weren't on Mick guessed. Mick finds an article that says Hillary's family is one of the 100 richest in the country, so what kidnapp and she got a hold of the gun ? Jack asks. But it doesn't tell us who broke her heart Alex says.
The water is rising inside the boat, Sarah is almost out, and Gavin goes to get Rob out, he is struck on the head and knocked out in the process, he floats face down in the water till Tommy rescues him.
Tommy drags Gavin out, he is no conscious, Jeff wants them all out of there, minus Rob and Sarah Shriver. Tommy goes back and Emma takes him to the hospital. The D's are back, they fill Jeff in on the kidnapp scenario, Jeff tells Mick 2 familys are coming in to identify one body, that fits the description of both the family's sons. On wins because one looses Mick says about the 2 families. Alex wants to know why Hillary got on the helicopter without a struggle, and Jack tells them the phone call that Hillarys husband said he got was true. Jack says shes high on pills and a gu to her back then she's not going to struggle, the phone rings, it's Hillary again.She says she can't think or sort it out. She says really when alex says her husband Patrick is worried about her, I was supposed to die. She's at a public phone, she tells Alex Patrick told her to get on the chopper, he hired the man to kill her and she hangs up. This time they get a trace, but she's gone when they get there.
Rob is up in daylight and Jeff wants them all out, Emma has the gun, Tommy isn't leaving Sarah, and the boat rocks and Tommy almost falls into the water. He goes back into get Sarah. Jeff's getting mad.
Helen tells Donna to stay in the car, she's very upset, but Donna tells her they are finished.
Back at HQ Mick tells Helen they have found the gun and he needs her to help in identifying the last by with 2 possible families. Helen rules out Micks suggestion. She picks the wrong family first.
Gavin is at the hospital with Rob, he tells Rob her told Sarah he loves her.
Jeff wants Tommy out of the boat, Jeff starts to come in himself, just as Tommy brings up Sarah.
Alex finds motive for Patrick, he is married to Hillary who was the owner of a rich company, Patrick was in middle management till he married Hillary, now he's rich and he wants her out of the way, to get her share, from her will.
The gun is a US gov issue, belonging to Colin, the pilot according to Mick.
Alex then tells them Colin did some ariel work for the Harris mining company, that is Hillary's maiden name and the company she owned.
That was 13 years ago Patrick tells them in the interview room, he claims not to have remembered. He denies hiring someone to kill his wife. He tells them Hillary tried to kill herself before.
Alex says she belives Hillary about being betrayed, Jack sasy are you an expert on broken hearts ? Mick starts thinking, if Patrick hired Colin, that means Colin would have to call him, and he didn't have a choice, so Patricks wating for a call that doesn't come. He hears a helicopter has gone down and hasn't heard so he assumes thats the one, so what would you boys do, Alex asks. Call 000.
Donna hands them a reasonable size box of tapes, a lot of 000 calls. Mick asks Helen how she went, the boys name was Tony, he was 14 and just into arts school.
Gavin sees Tommy at the hospital, Tommy tells him he Sarah is in surgery, Gavin goes to tell Rob, the room is empty. Tommy tells him that Rob died, he had an emblism, there was nothing they can do. Gavin is shocked, he knew that Sarah was o.k. Gavin knew something was wrong, but Rob wouldn't tell him. What a waste Gavin says.
In the D's office, they're all listening to 000 calls on walkmans, Alex finds a call from a man, it's Patrick, he's asking about his wife.
At Hillary and Patricks house, they are talking outside, she tells him she wants to leave him. Jack tells him about the 000 call, he gets caught, because the details of the plane were not released, so he had to know the details. Alex stays with Hillary, who goes inside as her husband is arrested. She tells Alex he told her he was worried about her, thats why she came home. She tells Alex she thought her husband was buying her a holiday house and he wanted her to see it first.. She never thought she'd find anyone to love her for her. She grabbed the gun struggled and the gun went off, it was an accident. Alex hugs her.
Meal room that night, Gavin is back, he tells them Sarah is out of surgery and o.k. Donna asks Helen doesn't delivering death messages make you want to cry? Jeff comes in and has a go at them for not obeying their orders, and then tells them there might be a comendation in it for them all. Then he nominates a trip to the Cutter Bar and it's Jack's shout. I think we need a tripple Helen says to Donna.
On the balcony Jack talks to Alex, true love that was all she was after, maybe she'll have better luck next time Jack says, she'll never trust another man again I wouldn't Alex says. Spoken like a true cynic Jack replies, who was the person who broke your heart. Someone I made up Alex tells him, I've got a report to write up, let me wallow in my cynisim for a while. Sure says Jack and he's gone.
