Hi friends, If you are going through this page you must be having a fairly good idea of who I am ! Anyway,my name is Sumalatha.I always hoped if I could take out the suma and add a Mangeshkar after! Born in Madras,brought up in Bombay and Andhra Pradesh in India,I have had a very cosmopolitan upbringing and hated people who asked me what caste I belonged to. I also hated routine and monotony and could never take to formal,rigid training of any kind be it music,dance or anything!Though I bunked school a lot,I was pretty good in studies and had a good aptitudes for languages which has helped a lot later. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Well,later is when I joined films at the age of 15 after winning a beauty contest in Andhra[Guntur]. So,studies ended and I was back in the place where I was born-Madras now Chennai.My first film was a tamil film and I couldn't speak a word of it!I went to act in all the South Indian language films and this is where my natural flair for languages helped.I can speak 6 languages now thanks to these experiences.I have travelled nearly all over India and made a few, very good friends and I am grateful for my career for giving me name, fame,money,independence,friends and the oppurtinity to see the whole world. But the most important thing is the self respect you get as an earning woman. Among my good friends in the film industry,I count Chiranjivi, Suhasini and Vishnuvardan. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Now,in the year 1991 I got married to the man I fell | in love and who also was my costar-Ambrish.I guess after 11 years in films I wanted a change of pace. But I keep telling Ambi,that I chose Bangalore as the city I wanted to live first and then selected him as my prospective husband!!The other gentleman in the picture is my 6 year old son and "dada" Abishek.Right now these two keep me busy,but who knows one day you might just see me on the silver screen again. This page is dedicated to my fans and all film fans.
