Lessons Learned

For much of my life
I guarded my heart
Afraid to let anyone near
Knowing they might leave
Or even betray me.

All of that changed
When I met you.
You taught me how to love
And even to trust.

Then I came so close
To losing you forever
But you fought your
Way back to me.
I never thought that
You would betray me
Yet you did and
We came so close
To losing each other
Forever.

But I know that
All still I want is
To love and protect you
For all the rest of my life.
