A Warrior’s Farewell

She stood upon the grassy hill
And took a breath of cool fresh air
She let it out in heavy sigh
And let the wind whip raven hair

She raised her sword to skies above
Blue, although her mood was gray
And paid her final solemn dues
And welcomed in her newfound way

No longer would her demon rule
And lead her heart through blood and war
For now another took its place
And silenced demon’s angered roar

A gentle girl now ruled her heart
Her demon knocked from off its throne
Though powerless she may have seemed
Her innocence had held its own

Now set her sword back to its sheath
And climbed back on to waiting steed,
She left behind not just the hill
But also thoughts of last blood-need

Elated cry as off she rode
Cantered back from demon’s end
At last that peace had found her heart
Shown the way; by gentle friend.
