What's Happening? - Part 3 (July 2009).
Here is the third part of the 2009 updates. Don't forget....

Let's have a look at more recent GWG film and TV? If you've been reading this
blog rather than just reading the pretty pictures you probably realise I'm not a great fan
of Hollywood output at the moment. Judging from the stills though I might have to change
my opinion if the publicity photographs of Sienna Miller are to be believed. She will be
playing "The Baroness" who was an implacable enemy of the USA and GI Joe in
particular in the DC Comic franchise. Hopefully the film will match the kitcsh of
"Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD" but will have more fetching gals than Lisa Rinna
and Sandra Hess turned out to be - a few sceencaps below. In fact maybe Sienna Miller
(actress/mannequin) will be outshone in all departments (acting and looks) by Rachael
Nichols as good girl Scarlett. Regardless, the costumes look remarkably similar to each
other and remarkable similar to Kate Beckinsdale's costume (see below) but then again I
guess there is only so much you can do in the wardrobe department for these kinds of
roles.
Okay, off at a tangent. If head to toe dressed in black action women are your thing
then there has been no shortage of mainstream Hollywood film over the years. Unfortunately
the end result has ultimately been pretty lame and the fact that GI Joe is taking so long
to film doesn't bode well. We've had 'Nick Fury', 'Barb Wire' (Pamela Anderson),
'Half Past Dead' (Nia Peebles), Ultraviolet (Milla Jovovitch), Aeon Flux (Charlize
Theron). In general none have been a success either artistically or as a GWG film -
exclude Nia Peebles from that statement. I suppose it is no conincidence that most
of these films are based on comic book characters. Great source material but poor transfer
to celluloid methinks.
Still discussing this type of film, could it be that foreign film does it better? My
own pet fave is Kate Beckinsdale in the UK films 'Underworld'. Kate plays a leather suited
vampire who is out to stop a war with the evil werewolves. There have been
three films in the series (the first was the better one) and Kate Beckinsdale was a
real revelation (in the first two installments) as the vampire assassin who enters battle
both guns blazing. I can't put my finger on why but the films work much better than the
others listed but they do. Another example of a film working when it shouldn't is the
low budget British vampire film 'Razor Blade Smile' - Eileen Daly playing a hitwoman
vampire Japanese film has provided us with several examples, all pretty unfathomable
and absurd, but films they do push up the eye cancy quotiant to such an extent I don't
really care if I don't understand the plot and if it is dumber than their American
counterparts. Maybe it is the fact that low budget film, have lesser stars and don't
overhype themselves and therefore the dissappointment factor is at a lower threshold..
One of the best genres for finding ruthless women is the soap drana. I've covered
quite a few of these in the past but they still keep appearing. My two favourite spanish
language ones are "Prisionera" and "Gata Salvaje". You are unlikely to
find anyone more ruthless than Lulu (Diana Quijano) in Prisionera who really is a great
character. Eva Grandos (Carolina Tejera) is a little way behind but still an impresseive
killer soap character. There are numerous examples of others and here are a cross
selection of some of the better ones from across the Americas.
Still on soaps, I've covered Kahiin Kizzi Roz in three articles and still have come
nowhere near to charting Ramola Sikands crimes. However the killer woman is far from
uncommon in Indian TV. A full article would have been more than merited if the page were
still going full swing. Even though the detail is missing here are a few examples of bad
girls from various dramas and cop shows from India.
Okay, there is enough for one more mini-update. I have to tell you that
the last part is planned to be slightly different from these updates - time will tell. It
will get updated once everything is in place but who knows when that will be.
