Magazines

Empire is published by the same people who publish the  music  magazine  'Q'.  Empire  is  a  very  glossy effort,  with  lots  of   photographs,  interviews   and reviews.  It   is  a  lightweight   magazine   with   the emphasis  on entertaining rather than informing. The reviews tend not  to be very critical, and most  of the interviews  are   with  big  stars  hyping  their  latest effort. Published monthly.
Published monthly by the British Film Institute, Sight and Sound provides  reviews and analytical features. Each movie  review  consists of  both a very detailed summary and an opinion piece .  The feature articles are  always  thoughtful   and  well  researched,  and  usually include appraisals  of a classic movie, tribute features to  influential  figures  in  the  industry, and industry  news.  The  magazine  is  really   aimed  at students of film rather than the general public, but is an excellent source for anyone interested  in movies. As  the  movie reviews  reveal the  entire story, they are not much use as a preview but they are ideal for lazy newspaper reviewers.

Stardust covers science-fiction movies and TV series. Previews  of  forthcoming releases,  interviews  with cast - members   and   the  usual   supply  of  glossy photo-spreads, it's a good source  of information for sci-fi fans.
Total Film has a similar format to Empire, though the reviews tend to be more critical. Good value. Published monthly.

Cinescape  covers  the action  and sci-fi genres in TV and  cinema.  Entertaining  but  not  much   depth.
Published bimonthly.
