Dette er hvordan Alan Bateman [han som "lagde" H&A] fra Home and Away fikk ideen for denne fremragende suksessfulle tv-serien!
Ideas for TV shows and characters come in the most unusual of places. Home and Away sprung into life on a hot summer's day in a country town in southern New South Wales.. and only because a man desperately wanted an ice-cream to cool down with! Alan Bateman is now the General Manager of the Seven Network in Sydney, but in 1987 he was the director of Drama at the Seven Network Australia. On this day, as he took a break from driving to get that ice-cream, Mr Bateman noticed the construction of a home for foster children.. and the mixed feelings of the local community about it! It gave him a doozy of an idea for a TV series, and within months the outline for the show was formed, with its location being a tiny mythical coastal town on the outskirts of a large urban sprawl. That town would be called Summer Bay. We know the rest. Nine years on, Home and Away remains an outstanding success. Unlike a lot of soapies, it's never gone over the top with glitz and mour, opting to follow the lives of normal people, real people. Boy, hasn't it worked! Rarely can one man's desire to lick an ice-cream have proved so profitable!
