It's Mr. Grainger's birthday dinner day. He's served for Grace Brothers for 37 years and may be forced to retire. When he is summoned to Mr. Rumbold's office he hears the ticking of his retirement cuckoo clock. Mrs. Slocombe gets drunk at the dinner party, and Mr. Grainger does not get retired instead Mr. Grace gets the clock.
