The management of Grace Brothers is quick to respond to the governments plea to conserve the nation's fuel stocks. So they turn off the heating. The men's department stays warm by Mr. Lucas fetching heaters for them. Mrs. Slocombe stays warm by drinking some spirits. Captain Peacock caches Mr. Lucas and takes all of the heating devices and giving them to Mr. Rumbold. Mr. Rumbold has a electric fire in his desk and leaves it on and his desk is set on fire.

Key Facts:

This episode was inspired in part by the miners' strike of winter 1974, which led to power cuts, a three-day work week, and the fall of the Conservation government. By the time this episode was aired they strike was over.
