Galaxy Quest

Galaxy Quest tells the story of the cast of a late 70's sci-fi TV show that is mistaken by aliens to be the real thing. The aging members, who currently make their living by appearing at conventions and store openings, are brought on board a perfect replication of their TV space ship. The only difference is everything really works. It's hard to say too much about this movie, other than that it's just a fun time. This is mainly due to a very sharp script that smartly skewers not only Star Trek but also the whole Trekkie culture. The cast also helps quite a bit. While I'm not a Tim Allan fan I have to admit he was perfect for his role as the Shatner-like commander of the starship. Sigourney Weaver does a nice job as a sexy Uhura-type character that really doesn't have much of a job on the ship other than to look pretty . But Allan Rickman really steals the show as a highly trained dramatic actor stuck in a Spock-like role. If I go on much more, I'll be over analyzing a movie not really meant to be analyzed in the first place. Just go see the movie and enjoy it for what it is, a fun popcorn matinee.

My rating : YAY!
