Foundation Stone of Sangli Software Park on May 29 Sangli becomes Cyberli !!!!!!

The Foundation stone of Software Park in Sangli will be laid by Shri Patangrao Kadam, Minister of Industries. This software park will be located at Vishrambag, the most prime location in Sangli city. This area is already enriched with premier education institutes like Walchand College of Engineering, Willingdon College, Deccan Education Society's Institutes of Management and Chintaman college. A large number of software training institutes are also located in this locality. This will definitely benefit the software companies coming to this software park.

This software park will help to boost software exports from Sangli. At the same time, thousands of software students from Sangli, Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur, Bijapur and Belgaum will get jobs. Also some more software parks will come up in Sangli which will bring Sangli on the world map of Information Technology and Internet.

Krishnan Sasikiran becomes 5th Indian Grand Master in Sangli Common Wealth Chess Championship

Krishnan Sasikiran, a 19 year old Indian chess player became 5th Indian Grand Master in Sangli Common Wealth Chess Championship. He is the second youngest Indian to achieve this title. The first youngest player was Vishwanathan Anand at the age of 18.
One more chess star of India Pendyala Harikrishna became the youngest Indian International Master at the age of 14.
The international chess championship at Sangli was a great success for India with two Indians achieving a great success.

Common Wealth International Chess Championship Inaugurated in Sangli

Common Wealth International Chess Championship was inaugurated in Sangli on 20th of February 2000. This is the first CommonWealth Chess Championship of the Millenium. This Championship is going on at Krishna Valley Club in Sangli. 13 Grandmasters and many another renowned International Masters of chess from various countries of the world are taking part in this mega event.

Asha Bhosale given Sangli Bhushan

Veteran Film Singer Asha Bhosale was recently honoured with Sangli Bhushan at a special function organised in Sangli. This award is given to Sanglians who achieve success at various levels. Asha Bhosale recalled her childhood days in Sangli with her family. She also recalled her sweet memories and the Sangli of those days. She said that Sangli is now very much different than those days. International Chess Championship will be held in Sangli in February-March 2000.

International Chess Championship will be held in Sangli From 21 February to 3rd March. Participants from over 50 different countries will take part in this grand event. This includes 15 grandmasters and 24 International masters.

The Last International Chess Championship was held in Sangli 54 years back in 1936. National Level Chess Championships are held in Sangli almost every year.

Microsoft conducts Software Piracy Raids in Sangli

Microsoft, the world's largest software company recently conducted software piracy raids in Sangli city. In a highly surprise move, Microsoft raided corporates, software vendors, computer training institutes and cybercafes in the city. Microsoft siezed huge amount of pirated software from various places in the city in surprise raids.

As the news spread fast throughtout the city, most of the computer related businesses in this otherwise busy city remained closed.

The details about which computer training centres in Sangli were involved and what amount of pirated software was seized is not yet known.

Dilip Kumar holds a Rally in Sangli

Dilip Kumar the famous Hindi film actor recently visited Sangli and held a massive rally at the Tarun Bharat Sports Stadium here. Thousands of people flocked to see the great film artist. In this rally, Dilip Kumar warned the state government that if Muslim OBCs were not given representation, the government will be in danger.

Further there were protests from Shiv Sena activists against Dilip Kumar in Sangli.
