Toby Stephens: 30%

Toby plays the part, presumably earmarked for Joseph Fiennes, of the secondary hero. This is a beautiful film, which is incredibly poignant and thoughtful with fantastic direction by Martha Fiennes. It has the best use of sound in a drama for a long time. There hasn't been such a sweeping sense of pre-revolutionary Russia since Doctor Zhivago.

• Extras: Much of the filming took place in Basingstoke, a decidedly less romantic location than St. Petersburg!
