Jeremy Northam: 90%

Long before The Matrix, Hollywood was already cashing in on the "information super-highway", as it was quaintly called back then. In this formulaic but nevertheless fun thriller, Sandra Bullock is a computer-geek who accidentally stumbles upon a major corporate conspiracy to... oh hell, it doesn't really matter what, who, or why. The film really takes off when Bullock has her identity erased by the corporate bad guys, who set luscious-but-evil Jeremy Northam on her tail. Jezza first seduces her, then attempts to assassinate her - men, huh? - and Sandra must defeat him to reclaim her identity and save her life.

If you like Big-Brother style techno-thrillers, you'd be better off renting Enemy of the State, a truly paranoia-inducing film. However, Sandra Bullock is always engaging as the cyber-gal in peril, and Jeremy Northam brings as much depth as he can to what is essentially a one-dimensional role. It's a shame that not much is ever made of the attraction Northam supposedly feels to Bullock, which could have given the film a more interesting twist.
