GILLIAN AND THE X-FILES

Gillian Anderson stars as Special Agent Dana
Scully, the exceptionally rational agent who, trained as a medical doctor, is a true
believer in the power of science to explain what at often times seems unexplainable.
Playing ying to her partner Fox Mulder's yang, Scully refuses to cede to his hypotheses
that there exists in the universe anybody or anything that does not conform to the laws of
nature and the rules of science --alien beings and human anomalies included. For her
performance on THE X-FILES, Anderson has earned the respect of television fans and
critics alike who have cited her character's intelligence, wit and integrity as veritable
breakthroughs in television drama. In May of 1995, Movieline dubbed her "a
better actress than most of the women you see in movies." Anderson received the 1996
SAG Award for Outstanding Actress in a Television Drama, an honor voted on byher fellow
professional actors. She also received a 1996 Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Drama.
Anderson has emerged to become one of
television's most popular young actresses, boasting two on-line fan clubs, the
"Gillian Anderson Testosterone Brigade" and the "Gillian Anderson Fan
Club." Prior to her role on THE X-FILES, Anderson was an award-winning
off-Broadway actress, recipient of a Theatre World Award for her performance in Alan
Ayckborne's "Absent Friends" at the Manhattan Theater Club, and co- star in
Christopher Hampton's "The Philanthropist" at the Long Wharf Theater in New
York.
Born in Chicago, Anderson
moved to London, England with her family when she was 2. When she turned 11, her family
moved back to the United States and settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There she began
acting at City High School and in community theater, where she developed a passion for the
stage. After she graduated from high school, she studied with the National Theater of
Great Britain at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and then at the Goodman Theater
School at Chicago's DePaul University, where she obtained her BFA degree.
