Italian horror films of the eighties are known for their extreme gore. Actor Giovanni Lombardo Radice made a career out of being one of those to fall victim to such gruesome effects. In fact, one source even referred to Radice as Italys pin cushion. In each of his roles, the actor would play a simple minded character who would eventually fall victim to a horrible demise. In Paura nella Citt dei Morti Viventi, Radice gets a table drill rammed through his temple, in Cannibal Ferox he gets castrated then the top of his head shaved off, and so forth. Overall the actor is not remembered by what character he played but as "the guy who got killed by . . . (fill in the blank)."

Paura nella citt dei morti viventi **
One of Lucio Fulcis most famous films. When a priest in Dunwich hangs himself, strange things start to happen. This film features the famous scene where a woman vomits her intestines and John Morghen gets a drill through his head! Fulci creates a dark and eerie mood, while Gianetto De Rossi amazes us again with his unparalleled special effects.

La casa sperduta nel parco (I choose not to rate this film)
This Last House on the Left rip-off finds David Hess and John Morghen wrecking havoc on a party of rich kids. I found this film to be more unsettling than Cannibal Holocaust!

Apocalypse domani *

Cannibal ferox **

Deliria **
After serving as an actor and assistant director to many of Dario Argentos films, Michele Soavi makes his directorial debut with a screenplay by Luigi Montefiori. A dance company is trapped inside a theater while a killer stalks them one by one. Montefioris script is filled with intricate plot twists, yet the play which serves as a backdrop to the film is laughable. However, the end where the last survivor recounts all the victims to deduct who the killer is, is marvelous! A good start from Soavi, although this is a far cry from Argentos masterful Opera.
