Pier Luigi Conti is a likable figure who appeared in many famous Italian exploitation films in the late 70's through 80's. Conti has worked with the best including: Fulci, D'Amato, Franco and Deodato. In the British fanzine "aka: Joe D'Amato," the director credits Conti's appeal to his "European" look and characterizes him as "a poor version of Nick Nolte." The actor comes off as one of those people who would be ideal to have around in a time of peril. However, in many of Conti's films, he often falls victim to a violent and horrible death. D'Amato concludes that Conti now sells imported, straw bags at Porta Portese ("Rome's flea Market").

I padroni della citt **

Zombi 2 **
One of the most famous and celebrated Zombie films of all time! Lucio Fulci directs this graphic tale of the living dead rising on a remote, West Indian island. Tisa Farrow (yes, Mia's sister) ventures to the island of Matoul with the aid of Al Cliver and Co. to find her missing father. The island is host to medical experiments that bring the dead back to life. This film features what may be the most famous scene in Italian horror history, "the splinter and the eye-ball" sequence. Gianetto De Rossi again provides Fulci with the most extreme gore effects. Great soundtrack by Fabio Frizzi.

Mondo Canniable **
Jess Franco contributes the most inept film in the cannibal genre, and also one of the more enjoyable. Al Cliver takes the family on a safari and loses his wife, daughter and left arm! Sabrina Siani plays the abducted daughter who is taken in by the cannibal tribe as their "White Goddess." The natives are Europeans with black wigs and cheap face paint, the jungle looks like the outside of a tropical hotel and Cliver's severed arm is sloppily held behind his back. Still a fun film featuring the beautiful Siani. Note: the cannibal's catchy chant is more engrossing than the story.

Sexo Cannbal ***

L'aldil ***
This is one of the best, most famous and goriest of all the Italian horror films. A man is publicly lynched and sealed up in a wall in 1920 New Orleans. Years later the hotel which stands on the same ground turns out to be one of the seven gateways to hell. This is a tightly crafted film with exquisite gore effects created by Ginetto De Rossi. Some of the famous scenes include an eyeball attack by tarantulas and the notorious "day-light through a little girl's head." See the uncut, letterboxed version at all costs!!

Texas 2000 **
A mediocre film by the great Joe D'Amato. Al Cliver leads a band of outsiders to save the future from an evil gang. Sabrina Siani plays Maida, a woman who is forced to fight back. Luigi Montefiori wrote the screenplay for this film and directed some of the action sequences (some sources credit the entire film to Montefiori's direction).

Endgame - Bronx lotta finale **

L'alcova ***
This is one of D'Amato's most successful films at the box-office. While on safari in Zerbal, Al Cliver brings home a female slave played by the beautiful Laura Gemser. At first his wife is extremely furious, then falls in love with the slave, ending her previous relationship with the maid. The maid becomes jealous and stops at nothing to break the two apart. One of D'Amato's best!

Demonia **
One of the last and worst of Lucio Fulcis films, Demonia is a tale of an excavation crew investigating a site in Sicily where corrupt nuns were crucified in 1486. The story is unfocused, slow, ridiculous and overall uninteresting. Franco Gianninis effects are crude and a far cry from the work of Gianetto De Rossi. Al Cliver briefly appears as Porter, a marine biologist who is harpooned by an unexplained ghost of a nude woman(?). Lucio himself makes an appearance as an inspector. The story is atrocious and the effects of nuns being crucified, cats ripping out a womans eyes and a man being drawn in two are sadly unconvincing.
