Ryo Sanada
I've noticed in many of the bios written about Ryo that everyone says he's got a 'fiery' temper. I myself don't think of Ryo as one who has a short temper. Sure, he gets mad when they Dynasty is threatening his friends and stuff, but who doesn't? He's a pretty easy going guy if you ask me. He'd have to be to put up with that team he's got. ;) I figure a lot of the temper idea comes from Ryo's little tantrums in the second season when his sword breaks and all that. Personally, I believe that wasn't due to a short fuse but more to emotional fatigue. Think about it. He's been through a few ordeals with the white armor already. He's tired both physically and emotionally. That added with the immense frustration of not knowing what is happening to his body and
they've got a new villain to fight and his swords don't work and everyone's expecting him to know what to do. I'd be having a little break down, too if I were in his shoes.
But at the same time, I've always thought of Ryo as a worrier as well. He has a strong sense of responsibility and when something goes wrong he's quick to take the fall for it--the sign of any good leader. But too much worrying isn't good for anyone. In my fic his grandmother get after him for worrying too much as well. After all, leader of the Ronins or not, he's still a kid. He should be out having fun! Right?
Many times fanfics portray Ryo as an orphan. I have him living with his grandmother. His mother is dead--most likely died when he was born. But Ryo's father is still alive. I have yet to decide whether or not he will make any appearances in my fics or not. But Ryo and his father have some disagreements and Ryo wanted to stay with his grandmother because she lived in town and he would be able to go to school with the rest of his friends that way.
Ryo has a bad habit of getting into trouble at school. It's not so much that he's a bad kid, he is just constantly at the wrong place at the wrong time. And with his kanji being "Virtue" Ryo is also a terrible liar. Which is another reason he is in trouble so much-- he is incapable of making up stories to get him out of the fixes he gets into. I also thought it would be funny to portray him as sort of a pyromaniac. So every once in a while you'll catch a glimpse of Ryo playing with fire in my stories. ;)
