Police Cadet is broken down into 3 parts: '84, '85, and '88. I don't think they intended on making part 3, but it was the worse of the 3 parts. A lot of people liked part 1 of Police Cadet the best but my favorite was part 2. After all, how often do you get these top TVB artists in the same series together? Part 2 had the best cast and their acting was brilliant, not to mention the plot.

Part one of the series introduces our lead, Tony Leung, as a person in his late teens who grew up in a single-parent family. His father had another family outside all these years even though he didn't divorce Tony's mom. Tony has a half sister (Carina) and half brother (Dai Zi Wai), who near the end of the series we find out that he wasn't even Tony's half brother. Tony was raised by his mom because his father was a very miserly man.

Tony decides to go to Cadet School with his best friend, Liu Fong, who has always dreamed of becoming a policeman. Cadet School ends up being extremely difficult. Despite the hardships, Tony becomes friends with many of the cadets. Two people he meets are Eddie Kwan and Sean Lau. Eddie is very weak and sensitive and many of the cadets make fun of him because of this. His uncle sent him to cadet school because he wanted Eddie to become more independent. Sean Lau is a year ahead of Tony and Liu Fong. He's very athletic and Tony finds that Sean is definitely a great competitor. The 2 become good friends later on.

Tony likes his next-door neighbor, Maggie and the 2 soon start dating. Carina likes Sean and those 2 begin dating, despite the fact that Liu Fong is also after Carina.

Cadet school requires a lot of athleticism and the cadets worked very hard to graduate. Sean graduated and went off to Police Training School (PTS) a year ahead of Tony. At the same time, Eddie gradually learned from his mistakes and became mentally and physically stronger. When the time came, Eddie and his class had to complete something called the "night march", where they have to run for many many miles.

Upon graduation, Liu Fong and Tony immediately went to PTS. Unfortunately, Dai Zi Wai was at PTS also and he was in training for his inspector position and he was always picking on Tony. Liu Fong wanted to help Tony play a joke on Dai Zi Wai but instead, he got caught and was kicked out of PTS. Tony graduated and was transferred to the same dept as Sean. In the beginning, Tony had a soft heart and he caused Sean's injury during an assignment. Because of the injury, Sean could no longer engage in rigorous exercises and he lost a chance at being promoted. He felt that his career was over. In the end, Sean quit his job, broke off his relationship with Carina, and left Hong Kong.

Tony was having his own problems with Maggie. Their relationship also encountered difficulties as Eddie became the third person in this love triangle. At work though, Tony was very successful and he was soon promoted. He faced problems with his brother, Dai Zi Wai, and in the end Dai Zi Wai committed suicide in front of Tony. Dai Zi Wai had never meant to be mean to Tony, but he didn't like being an illegitimate son and this caused his hatred towards Tony. His goal in life was to prove that he was better than Tony.

Sean comes back from the Philippines and it turns out that during this time, he was being employed as an assassin. He and Carina get back together and they get married and have a son. Sean's gang wouldn't leave him alone and soon the entire story about him being an assassin spilled and he was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Eddie was also sent to jail for engaging in illegal activities and the last scene of the series shows Maggie and Tony sitting across from each other in a restaurant…the audience is not sure if they will be together again.
