Deric assumes the role of an honest, hardworking cop in this series. His mom, also a cop, retires during the beginning of the series and from then on, she plays the nosy, retired cop while his uncle is a coroner.

Life has never treated Deric very well in terms of relationships. His first girlfriend, ("Sing Jai's" older sister) was killed in a shootout. "Sing Jai" blamed Deric for his sister's death and never forgave him because at that time, Deric was still a rookie cop with no experience but he thought that he could handle the crook. This incident still lives in Deric's memory.

Deric's present girlfriend, "Ah Vung" owns/works at a karaoke place. She used to be a prostitute, but Deric has accepted her for who she was. However, when Deric proposed to her, she felt that she wasn't good enough for him and shook it off as a joke. As a result, their relationship is strained and soon they break up and she leaves Hong Kong.

Pauline is a lawyer. Her mom worked as a maid for a wealthy man (Kwan Hoi San) and he put her through law school in England. She maintains a very good relationship with their family and is very good friends with the older son, "Wah Hoc Heem". She meets Deric at the airport when she first comes back to Hong Kong. His team was catching a drug dealer and she was accused of the crime. They clear up their misunderstandings and soon become good friends after realizing that they actually have similar interests. They start to date soon after.

Kwan Hoi San used to be a mafia leader. Behind his back, his two sons are still carrying on illegal activities. "Sing Jai" is chosen by an officer to be an undercover cop while he's still in police training school. He's sent to investigate the "Wah" family. He soon becomes good friends with Kwan Hoi San and he dates "Wah Jun Jun", Kwan's niece. Kwan's younger son is later caught by Deric's team but Pauline ends up in a poor position because she feels that she must be his attorney in order to pay back Kwan Hoi San for all that he's done for her and her mom. This causes a huge rift in her relationship with Deric and they break up because he can't see her viewpoint in the situation.

"Sing Jai" later finds evidence of "Wah Hoc Heem's" illegal dealings and is unsure of what to do. As a cop, he realizes that he must turn in the evidence, but he has grown very fond of Kwan Hoi San and "Wah Jun Jun". Before he even makes up his mind, he is murdered by "Wah Hoc Heem". "Jun Jun" later discovers that her cousin, "Wah Hoc Heem" killed "Sing Jai" and calls him out. He ends up killing her also, but Pauline witnesses the crime. She escapes from him and goes to "Lay Do" to hide from him. On the one hand, she has to think of Kwan Hoi San's feelings and on the other, she realizes that she's just witnessed a murder. She decides to call Deric and he goes to "Lay Do" to pick her up. Unknown to them, "Wah Hoc Heem" has already dispatched a murderer to kill her also. Deric gets shot on the arm but other than that, they are able to return safely to Hong Kong, where they contact the police. In court, lawyers find "Wah Hoc Heem" not guilty.

Because of this, Deric and Pauline get back together again. However, she returns to the "Wah" house to gather her belongings. She searches "Jun Jun" and "Sing Jai's" rooms for a CD case that holds evidence of "Wah Hoc Heem's" illegal activities. "Jun Jun" revealed this to Pauiline just before she died. Pauline finds the CD and takes it back to Deric's place.

Deric's uncle steals the CD in order to avenge his wife's death. His pregnant wife was run over by "Wah Hoc Heem" when the police were trying to capture him for "Jun Jun's" murder. Deric's uncle blackmails "Wah Hoc Heem", but in reality, he was playing mind games with him. Deric and his team are able to successfully capture "Wah Hoc Heem" at the end of the show.
