I watched this series a long time ago but I remember the first half of it was pretty entertaining. It was hilarious...the last few episodes were kindda draggy though. Overall though, I thought ATV did a fairly good job with this series. However, the guy who played Bruce Lee in the series had a big accent. The male lead, David Wu, went to the University of Washington St. Louis. I recall seeing an article about him in the Washington Post about 5 or 6 years ago. I think he's fluent in Mandarin and he hosts Taiwan's MTV now. I don't think he did anymore Cantonese series. As for Nick, he played David Wu's friend in the series. Joey and Esther did a fairly good job too.

I summarize with people's real names...also, i don't remember everyone's name in the series but David Wu plays Bruce Lee and Esther plays "Ada". Joey Meng plays "Phoebe".

Spirit of the Dragon talks about the life of Bruce Lee. The beginning of the series starts out with his childhood. He had an older brother and older sister and lived with his parents in HK. He was really interested in martial arts. His father was very good at martial arts but refused to teach him because Bruce caused too much trouble and loved to fight kids at school. He wanted to learn "Wing Chun" under a mentor and finally that mentor accepted him because he was really talented.

He did a few films in HK but then in got in trouble at school because he was picking fights and so, his dad decided to send him to the US. David Wu leaves for the US by boat and his good friend, played by Nick Cheung, decides to join him. When they arrive in the US, David attends college there. His mentor's daughter, played by Esther Kwan, also goes to college there. She's very big on woman's rights so a lot of funny things happen with her and David. One time she dragged David to a fasting activity but David was hungry so he just started eating in the middle of it...David and Esther became good buddies so to say, and they shared a lot of funny moments. Esther later fell in love with David but he didn't like her.

David wanted to start a Chinese culture club at school because he noticed that the Chinese on campus were very divided, whereas the Japanese club, led by Sunny Chan, was very successful. At first, they were unsuccessful, but soon the club was a hit. However, they came to odds with the Japanese club and soon everyone wanted a fight between Sunny and David. When they did fight, David won and soon he and Sunny became good friends and Sunny wanted to learn kung fu from David, who was now experimenting with his own movements called "Jit Koon Do". Along with his group of friends, David rented a place and became a mentor himself...he started a "mo goon". One of the members was an American girl named "Brenda" (I know Bruce Lee's wife's real name is Linda but I think ATV wasn't granted rights to use her real name so they called her "Brenda" instead. I don't know the name of the actress who plays her but I've seen her in other ATV series and she looks mixed.) and she really looked up to David.

David met Joey because she was a neighbor...she appeared to be the bad girl type but she really wasn't and soon she and David started dating. Joey was actually from a rich family and her mom wanted her to return home. In order to continue dating David, she had to continue college, which she agreed to do.

The villian in the series is Kong Wah. I believe he was in love with Joey and at odds with David. One night while David and Joey were walking in the streets, he took out a gun and tried to shoot David but accidentally shot Joey instead...David was devastated over her death and he couldn't let go because he knew that he caused her death. However, Joey's mom saw him at her grave and told him that he needed to move on with his life. As a result, David fell in love with "Brenda" and they soon got married and had a son.

A few years later, David returned to HK with his family and officially started his movie career. He made a few movies but then rumors started circulating saying that he was having an affair with an actress. Although "Brenda" wasn't happy, she hardly ever question her husband. One day, Kong Wah kidnapped "Brenda" because he wanted revenge on David. David saved her (and I think Kong Wah was killed...). A few months later, David (Bruce Lee) died.
