In the first 6 episodes, Jackie is transferred from the "fei
fu dui" to the small, peaceful police station in Peng Chau.
The main reason is because the #1 criminal in Hong Kong,
"Goo Wai Foo" is after him because Jackie killed his
younger brother during a shootout.
Roger is just released from jail in the very beginning of the
series. Roger was also involved in the robbery of the armored
truck, but he was forced into the scheme. Jackie shoots him in
the arm during the shootout but he manages to escape back to Peng
Chau where his family lives.
Jackie meets Poon when "Goo Wai Foo" was trying to kill
him at the hospital. They start dating soon. Jackie meets Jessica
in Peng Chau and she doesn't like him very much. She thinks he's
a pervert because she ran into him with her bicycle and they both
fell down together. When she got up, she ended up with his
handprint on the front of her shirt. Later, she thought he was
peeking at her when she was changing but it was actually one of
her younger brother's friends.
Jackie has a hard time adapting to the peaceful island. He's used
to the action and the danger. Therefore, he expects a lot from
the cops who work under him. The other cops in Peng Chau dislike
his attitude as a "perfectionist" in his duties and
therefore don't get along with him. Jackie woke them up one
morning and made them go jogging up a very steep hill =) This
scene was really funny because all the cops were out of breath,
some wanting to puke.
I guess you'd call it "yuen ka lo zac" but Jackie ends
up renting the upstairs of Jessica's house. She's still pissed at
him so she charges him an extra $1000 for the rent. It's also
kind of ironic because Roger is living in the same house as the
cop who shot him (They both don't know this though).
Jackie and
Jessica get on good terms again when he helps her arrest some
people who are selling food and other commodities on a little
boat. He gets in trouble for this, because he didn't follow
proper procedure when arresting these people. Therefore, Jessica
feels really guilty and promises that she'll be a witness if he
needs her.
Meanwhile, Jackie and his girlfriend, Poon Chi Lay's,
relationship is slowing drifting apart. When he does get a chance
to see her, he spends most of his time complaining about Peng
Chau and the people there. His girlfriend begins to feel like she
knows his friend "Tin Yau" better than she knows him.
Jessica is one of Poon Chi Lay's students. She sees her shopping
with "Tin Yau" and goes and tells Jackie in a
round-about way. Its soooo funny. She's like, "Don't give up
the forest just for a single tree." (You guys know what I
mean right? It's some Chinese proverb comparing forests to
women.) And Jackie was like, what the heck are you talking about.
Then she said, "Your tree's being chopped down." (Does
that make any sense?) heehee
Anyways, Poon Chi Lay and her sister go to visit Jackie in Peng
Chau. She feels like he doesn't respect her feelings. She doesn't
break up with him yet though. (I still didn't see the part where
she got tog with "Tin Yau")
Poon Chi Lay's birthday is coming up so Jackie (who still doesn't
know that Lay likes "Tin Yau") is trying to figure out
what to get her. He asks Jessica and she tells him to get a
jigsaw puzzle made out of one of their pictures. He cuts down her
idea at first but then asks her where he can go to get the puzzle
made =) Jackie comes home with the puzzle and has a lot of
trouble putting the puzzle together. Jessica goes upstairs to see
him and he tells her to do it, so she spends like the whole night
putting the puzzle tog for him while he sits around. The next
day, he goes to see Lay but she brings "Tin Yau" and
Jackie realizes what's going on and gets really pissed off. He
storms back to Peng Chau and goes home and drinks. When Jess sees
him, she asks how his day went and he starts to yell at her
talling her that her idea was stupid. Jessica yells back at him
and goes downstairs. Jackie has a talk with "Yuk Jie"
(Yuk Jie is actually Jackie's mom int he series but they both
don't know this. He thinks of her as a good friend right now,
almost like a mom) and after that, he feels much better. He
apologizes to Jess. Jackie forgives "Tin Yao" and Poon
and wishes them the best.
Jessica works as a reporter for one of the magazines. She works
at the same place as Poon's younger sister, "Yan Yan".
Jessica wrote a story on "Goo Wai Fu" that ended up
getting very good reviews.
"Goo Wai Fu" and two of his pals decided to rob a gold
store downstairs from where Jessica and Yan Yan worked. The alarm
sounded but everyone thought it wasn't important but Jessica and
Yan Yan decided to go out and check and they ran into one of
"Goo Wai Fu's" men who took Jessica hostage. "Tin
Yau" showed up with Poon to get Yan Yan and they saw what
happened. "Tin Yau" rescues Jessica (he promises the
robber that he'll be the hostage instead. Then "Tin
Yau" drops a coin and ducks really fast so the robber gets
shot.) Jessica faints and ends up in the hospital.
Poon marries "Tin Yau" soon after. On the day of the
wedding, "Goo Wai Fu" is watching but couldn't actually
kill Jackie there because all the guests at the wedding were
cops. The guests soon leave to go home and rest for a while
before the banquet at night. So "Goo Wai Fu" follows
Jackie but Jackie senses someone following him and looses him in
the chase. Therefore, "Goo Wai Fu" goes to "Tin
Yau" to find out where Jackie is. "Tin Yau" had
gone downstairs to get the car and "Goo Wai Fu" beats
him up. Poon Chi Lay's younger sister "Yan Yan" saw
that he forgot his keys and went to the garage to look for him.
She saw "Gu Wai Fu" and another guy beating her
brother-in-law up and just then, "Goo Wai Fu" looked up
and saw her. The other guy shot her in the head. Her brother
-in-law saw this and went over to her and they killed him too.
"Tin Yau" dies but "Yan Yan" doesn't.
However, she's heavily injured and can no longer talk or
understand anything. Jessica and Jackie tell Poon Chi Lay to move
into Peng Chau so that more people can take care of "Yan
Yan".
Jackie and Jessica become really good friends. She encouraged him
to go back to Poon Chi Lay but he knew that wasn't possible and
told her that. She's actually thrilled though because she's
starting to like him...
Jessica's dad
accuses her stepmom of flirting with one of the cops on Peng Chau
and he beats the cop and her stepmom up. Her stepmom wants to
commit suicide by jumping into the ocean but Roger saves her and
thus, she tells him how she ended up marrying his dad. Roger had
always thought that his stepmom had broken up his parent's
marriage which caused his mom's death. Therefore, he never liked
her and he left his home when he was really young. His stepmom
reveals that it was his dad who had raped her and therefore, she
was forced to marry him. His dad had never treated her with
respect and now she's finally reached the end of her patience.
Roger feels really angry at himself after he hears the story
because all these years, he had blamed his stepmom. His stepmom
moves in with "Yuk Jie".
Jessica gets into some trouble at her workplace when she
witnesses her boss getting his hand chopped off. She promises the
police to be a witness and the bad guys threaten her. In one
instance, they threw a bucket of red paint all over her and told
her to mind her own business. Jackie helps Jessica out and
catches the bad guys.
Fires are mysteriously starting on Peng Chau. One day Jessica,
her stepmom, and "Yuk Jie" are all at "Yuk
Jie's" restaurant and a fire starts outside. They get
trapped outside. Roger and Jackie walk by and save them. This is
where Roger realizes that Jackie was the "fai fu dui"
cop who shot him. After the fire, Jessica's dad and stepmom make
up and he treats her very nicely now.
There's one scene that's really funny. Jackie was chasing after
Jessica's younger brother on a bike. Jess's brother was on roller
skates and he runs over Jessica. So Jessica bends down to pick up
her stuff and Jackie comes along down the hill and runs into her
again and lands on top of her. However, this time her handprint
gets on his shirt =) And he ends up with a sprained ankle and she
has to help him home. All the people were staring at him because
his leg was all bandaged up.
The culprit is finally caught and it turns out to be one of the
girls on the island who is a little crazy because she studies too
hard. Jessica's younger brother and his group of friends had
pushed her over the edge. She ends up going to a mental
institute.
Roger and Poon Chi Lay's relationship is slowly getting better
because Roger is figuring out ways to help her younger sister
recover. He's very nice to her and supportive when Yan Yan gives
her problems. Poon Chi Lay and Roger are starting to like each
other.
Jessica's stepmom finds Jackie's shirt in Jessica's drawer and is
somewhat confused so she questions Jessica about it. Jess reveals
that it was the shirt that she got dirty and washed for him. Her
stepmom figures out that Jess like Jackie and questions her.
Meanwhile, Jackie is on his way down because he realized that he
left his cell phone with her. He overhears something about Jess
liking him and stops dead at the top of the stairs and evesdrops
on their conversation. Jessica admits to liking Jackie and Jackie
smiles but doesn't really know what to do because he treats her
like a sister. When he hears that their conversation is over, he
rushes back upstairs and slams the door. Jess comes up and knocks
and startles Jackie. He opens the door (he's kind of embarrassed)
and she askes him why he's all sweaty. =) He makes up a stupid
excuse and says that he was exercising. Poor Jackie is really
confused now and goes to "Yuk Jie" for an opinion.
"Yuk Jie" tells him to give the relationship a try. She
also points out that if Jackie didn't like Jessica, he wouldn't
be all worried and going around asking for opinions=)
"Goo Wai
Fu" follows Poon into Peng Chau after she comes back from
the doctor's office with her sister. He rents an apartment above
her house and assumes a new identity. He wanted to make sure that
Yan Yan wasn't a threat to him. However, he ends up seeing Roger
and Jackie on the island and decides to stay. He thought that
Roger still had some of the money from the robbery and he wanted
to kill Jackie to avenge his brother's death. He becomes friends
with the people on the island. Yan Yan was starting to get a
little better. One day, Poon needed to go to the grocery store to
buy something, so "Goo Wai Fu" offerred to watch her
younger sister. He took her by the ocean and made her fall into
the see and was trying to drown her with a stick. However, Yuen
Choi Wan comes along and rescues her. She thought that he was
using the stick to save Yan Yan. After this incident, Yan Yan
becomes ill again and can't talk or eat by herself.
Jackie is still contemplating his relationship with Jessica. One
day, there's an announcement of a typhoon on the radio so Jackie
offers to pick Jessica up at work so they can catch the last boat
back to Peng Chau. Right outside Jessica's office, Jackie almost
gets into an accident and he can't start his car. Therefore,
Jessica offers to push the car with him and after that, she wipes
his forehead =) It's really cute. This is where Jackie tells
Jessica that he knows she's given a lot. They hug and he brings
her back to his house because they missed the last boat back. His
grandma really likes Jessica and she's really happy.
Jessica and Jackie walk hand in hand back to Peng Chau the next
day and rumors that they're dating start circulating. Jessica's
dad and stepmom are really pleased.
Roger goes to Poon's house and she reveals that she likes him and
that she knows he likes her. However, Roger, knowing that the
police are still after him for the robbery, makes up and excuse
and tells her he doesn't like her. Then he leaves. But both are
troubled and can't sleep that night.
"Yuk Jie's" new bar opens and Jackie encourages his dad
and grandma to go to Peng Chau to congratulate her. He tells them
how "Yuk Jie" treats him like a son. (Goo Wai Fu is
working at the bar now). The day of the grand opening, "Yuk
Jie" sees Jackie's dad, her husband that she left more than
20 years ago and her mother-in-law. Jackie's grandma wanted to
say something but his dad hold her back and they act as though
they never met. In reality, "Yuk Jie" is really
troubled. After this incident, Jackie's parents come out for a
talk and both agree not to tell Jackie that "Yuk Jie"
is his mom. "Yuk Jie" begins to feel uncomfortable
around Jackie.
Jackie's grandma goes to see "Yuk Jie" and by accident,
Jessica stumbles to "Yuk Jie's" apartment because she
needed some old magazines for an articles she was writing.
"Yuk Jie" accidentally places a picture of herself and
Jackie as a baby into one of the magazines which Jessica takes
home. After seeing the picture, Jessica realizes that "Yuk
Jie" is Jackie's mom. She wants to tell Jackie but "Yuk
Jie" begs her not to and Jessica finally agrees. Meanwhile,
Jessica is feeling really guilty around Jackie.
Yuen Choi Wan learns from her parents that "Yuk Jie"
had another name when she was younger, "Lam Cho Lai".
She reveals this at the bar and Jackie overhears this. He tells
Jessica that his mom's name is "Lam Cho Lai" also.
Jessica tries to dissuade him from believing that "Yuk
Jie" is his mom. After some investigation, Jackie verifies
"Yuk Jie's" identity and wants to go and question her.
He also finds out that Jessica knew that "Yuk Jie" was
his mom and he gets really angry at the two of them. However,
internally, Jackie is really sad that his mom doesn't want him.
Yuen Choi Wan is starting to like Jackie. There were two really
funny scenes with them. In one scene, she was trying to make him
feel better and she started to touch his shoulder. Jackie was
backing off and trying to avoid her touch. The second scene was
even funnier because she tells him that she likes him and Jackie
literally runs from her. =)
One night, Roger was walking Poon and Yan Yan home from a Peng
Chau feast and they run into the guy that made Roger go to jail
(he was in Peng Chau helping Goo Wai Fu. He becomes friends with
Roger's younger brother.) He reveals that Roger is a criminal on
the run. Therefore, Roger is forced to tell her the entire story.
She tries to give him money so that he can leave but he refuses
to take it. After that, they hug and they're sort of a couple
now.
Jackie finds out that Roger was the criminal that he was looking
for when he sees Roger in the dark (the blinds were creating odd
shadows and Roger's eyes weren't covered. Because Roger had on a
mask the day of the robbery, Jackie only recognizes his eye
area.) He investigates Roger's past and finds out that Roger was
friends with Goo Wai Fu's younger brother.
Jackie's dad finally decides to tell him the truth about his
mom's reason for leaving him when he was a baby. They all go to
"Yuk Jie's" house and his dad tells the story. As it
turns out, Jackie's dad had an affair and his mom walked in on
her husband and the woman. Therefore, she left her husband and
son. Jackie forgives both his parents afterwards. When he goes
home that night, he also apologizes to Jessica.
Roger goes and finds the guy that made him go to jail. He wanted
that guy to leave his brother alone. He walks into the room and
sees Goo Wai Fu pointing a gun at the guy (the guy let Roger's
brother play with a gun and that pissed Goo Wai FU off). This is
the part where Roger realizes that Goo Wai Fu (he sees his
tattoo) is still alive. Roger tells him that he still has the
money so Goo Wai Fu lets him go.
Roger runs home and tells his friend Doggy that they need to
talk. Doggy wants to leave but Roger is reluctant because he
doesn't want any harm to come to his family and Poon. He sends
Poon and Yan Yan back to Hong Kong. However, Goo Wai Fu is
constantly harassing him, by going to his house and being chummy
with his father.
Doggy sees Roger's brother helping the bad guy and sees him
carrying a bag of guns. He tells Roger who goes and finds his
brother. After a serious talk, Roger's brother reveals that he
has always been looked down by others because he was the second
wife's son. After this scene, they come to an understanding and
he decides to help Roger catch the bad guys.
Jackie eavesdrops on Doggy and Roger one day and finds out that
Roger is indeed the man he was looking for. Roger reveals that
Goo Wai Fu is still on the island. Jackie doesn't loack Roger up
yet. He is planning on how to capture Goo Wai Fu.
Yuen Choi Wan sees Goo Wai Fu's cousin's gun. Therefore, they
take her along and tie her up. Goo Wai Fu is planning a robbery
and hires a lot of men from China. They arrive on Peng Chau where
Jackie is already awaiting them. The "fei fu dui" and
Jackie's team kill most of the men but Goo Wai Fu gets away.
Meanwhile, Jessica and Doggy go to find Roger and they run into
Goo Wai Fu. He shoots Doggy and holds Jessica hostage. Doggy gets
back and tells Roger that Jessica was captured by Goo Wai Fu.
Then he dies.
Roger rushes to find Jackie and tells him. Roger says that he
thinks he knows where Goo Wai Fu is hiding. (The island isn't
that big and Roger knows his way around). Roger and Jackie agree
to go in and talk to Goo Wai Fu. Once in the room, they all start
fighting and it gets really chaotic. Roger's brother shoots the
bad guy that made Roger go to jail but he doesn't die and he
starts shooting everywhere, injuring Jessica in he arm and he
kills Roger's brother (Roger's brother stood in front of him to
block Roger form getting shot). Yuen Choi Wan rushes out to
Jackie and she gets shot while trying to save him. The other
police rush in and Goo Wai Fu gets killed. Jackie tells Yuen Choi
Wan that he likes her as words of encouragement so that she'll
try to fight her injury. Jessica overhears this.
At the hospital, Jackie and Jessica have a talk. She tells him
that he should be true to his words. She also says that she
doesn't want to hurt Yuen Choi Wan. Jackie argues with her and
tells her that he only likes her but she wouldn't listen. Yuen
Choi Wan wakes up and they go up to see her. Jackie tells her
that he only likes Jess. She tells them that she understands
everything but jokingly notes that if they break up, she's gonna
be after him again.
Roger is sentenced to 5 years in prison. Poon waits for him.
Jackie is being promoted back to the "fei fu dui". The
people of Peng Chau are sad to see him leave and hold a feast for
him. At the feast, Yan Yan goes too and she's recovered a lot.
Everyone in Peng Chau is happy.
Jessica tells Jackie to pack up his belongings so that she can
rent the room out. He says that he wants to redecorate the room
for his wedding. He proposes to her and she accepts =) The ending
was really cute.
