As the title indicates, this is a series about revenge - the revenge of one woman on the man who destroyed her family. Irene grew up in an orphanage after her dad committed suicide and her mom went to jail. Her dad worked as an accountant for a company. However, Deric's dad ("Qi Wing Fat" - the son-in-law of the boss) forced her father to embezzle funds and use them to buy stock for him. The plan failed and the company found out that funds were missing and a finger was pointed at Irene's dad. Because Deric's dad was "family", nothing happened to him but Irene's dad was forced to go to jail. He couldn't handle this pressure, and he commited suicide by setting his house on fire. He ends up dying and Irene's older brother was hit in the head and he ended up having mental problems. Irene was rescued by her mom and handed over to her next-door-neighbor's maid to care for her. Meanwhile, in anger, her mom went to find Deric's dad and she trieed to stab him but ends up killing his driver instead and she's sent to jail. The maid brings Irene to the police station and she ends up at an orphanage.

In the orphanage, Irene has two best friends. They are Choi Ka Bo and Carrie Choi. Carrie is a very timid female, afraid to speak up, while Ka Bo is a very outgoing, flamboyant person. During their years at the orphanage, one person has always sponsored their living expenses. He goes by the pseudonym, "Uncle Rain". In reality, "Uncle Rain" is really Deric. Deric has been sponsoring the orphanage for many years and Irene has always regarded him as a pen pal, writing to him about her daily life and he too, has always responded to her letters.

Irene and her 2 friends finally reached the age of 18 and had to move out of the orphanage and live on their own. Therefore, the threesome find an apartment and move in as roommates. Wah Yeung Ming and his family are their next-door-neighbors. He really likes Irene and they start dating.

Irene finds a job working in a small company and she's really happy there. One day, at work, the maid who took her to the police station sees her and remembers Irene because of a distinctive necklace that's she's always worn as a child. She tells Irene that her mom is a homeless lady who lives on the corner of a street. In a state of shock, Irene goes and looks for herself. At first, she can't accept the fact that her mom is in such a poor condition, but then she comes to the realization that she's still her mom no matter what. Her mom explains to her why she ended up in jail and why her dad committed suicide. Soon after she is reconciled with her mom, her mom is murdered because she is spreading rumors about Qi Wing Fat's (Deric's dad) past. Because of the murder, Irene vows revenge. However, fearing the safety of her older brother (who is in a mental institution), Irene no longer visits him. Because she is plotting revenge against "Qi Wing Fat", she also deliberately breaks up with her boyfriend, not wanting to cause him trouble. However, he ends up in jail because of "Qi Wing Fat".

As part of her plan, Irene becomes the goddaughter of a very wealthy man whom "Qi Wing Fat" is hoping to do business with. She makes her first appearance at a ball, and Deric is captivated by her beauty. He realizes that she is one of the orphans that he's been conversing with for many years because he finds out her name. However, he does not reveal his "Uncle Rain" identity.

"Qi Wing Fat" has four children overall. The oldest son and the daughter are by marriage and Deric and Gallen were borne by his mistress. Deric and Gallen's mom died when they were really young. In a way, they were treated as inferior by their "dai ma". "Qi Wing Fat" trusts his eldest son the most and he is the heir to the family fortunes because the family fortune belongs to his mom's side of the family. He treats Deric and Gallen very poorly. However, Deric never depended on his father. He's a very famous architect in Hong Kong. Gallen, on the other hand, tries to move up in the company and he soon moves to illegal measures and "dirty tricks". In addition, he pursues Irene in order to help his dad's business.

Irene dates Gallen in order to further her plans for revenge. Besides using Gallen, she also lures the oldest brother into her fingertips. Secretly though, she is beginning to fall for Deric. Unknown to her, Gallen has already discovered her true identity and he wants to get rid of her. One day when Irene believes that she has enough evidence against Gallen and his father, she is captured by Gallen and sent to some remote place (in Vietnam or Thailand?) where she's forced to be a prostitute. Gallen's oldest brother was also at this scene and he gets killed by Gallen.

Because the older brother is dead, Gallen now assumes a higher position at the company. Meanwhile, Deric is furiously searching for Irene. He tells his father Irene's true identity (Irene has been writing a letter each day to Uncle Rain but she never mailed the letters out until the day before she disappeared) and questions him about her whereabouts.

Deric finally finds Irene a few months later and takes very good care of her during her recovery. They fall in love and soon they return to Hong Kong and get married (against his father's wishes). Irene also goes back and works for her godfather (her godfather is seeking revenge against Gallen because Gallen caused his wife's death). Her godfather supports her scheme for revenge against Gallen. Deric is unaware of these plans. He was always hoping that she'd forget about the past and forgive his family. Her plot is successful and soon Gallen is pushed to the edge and he holds Deric hostage. He threatens Irene and tells her to jump off the building. However, Gallen is the one who dies. Irene's plan for revenge still isn't complete though. She also pushes "Qi Wing Fat" to the point of a stroke and he is paralyzed. Because of this Deric is unable to forgive her.

Deric leaves her with a note saying that he cannot forgive her and that perhaps they were fated to be just "pen pals". Therefore, she writes to him as the old "Uncle Rain", hoping that one day he can change his mind and that they can be together again. Irene leaves her godfather's company and opens up a small flower shop. The last scene shows her delivering her daily letter to Deric's P.O. Box, just after he picked up the letters and left. She runs out hoping to find him, but she's too late.
