Event Horizon: the effective boundary of a black hole, the point at which light or matter can no longer escape the collapsed star's gravity. The point of no return. This also accurately describes Event Horizon the movie, as once you have it in your head, there's no turning back. Every grusome scene is gory and stomach-churning, and sticks with you for a long, long time.

It starts in the year 2047. A distress beacon broadcasting at two-minute intervals is detected in Neptune orbit. It's signature belongs to the experimental ship, Event Horizon. A search and rescue ship, the Lewis & Clark is despached, at the crew's reluctance, and along for the ride is the Event Horizon's creator, Dr. William Weir. Dr. Weir explains that the ship's magnetic drive opens a sort of artificial black hole, with which the ship can theoretically 'fold' space, and pop out the other side, light-years away. However, during it's madien voyage, some seven years ago, the Event Horizon mysterously dissappeared. Now the crew of the Lewis & Clark must investigate it's even mysterious re-appearance, and bring back whatever crew or information remains on the Event Horizon

So that pretty much sets the backdrop. Sci-Fi tends to be a genre I favor, especially when it takes place only 30 to 70 years from now. However, Event Horizon just put more horror into Sci-Fi, like the Alien series did. Except, Alien paled in comparison to Event Horizon.

From the time the movie started, to when it ended, it was in a constant state of half-climax. So, when the movie finally ended, you think: "That's it? It's over?" It also seemed to me, that the ending was rushed. Lawrence Fishburne looked bored constantly, and the chemistry between the characters was lacking substance, except between DJ (The Doctor) and Capt. Miller (Fishburne). However, in the end, only three of the crew of the Lewis & Clark end up surviving, barely. Three of the four principal cast are dead, in the tradition of Alien.

Event Horizon may have had good visuals, which at least gave it something. But it's poor acting, bad plot, excessive and gory violence brought it down tremendously. Can't say I enjoyed it, or, for that matter, enjoyed paying money for it.
