X-Files: Fight the Future was the most anticipated movie of the summer of 1998. All the fans were just itching to see this two-hour episode on the big screen, with no commercials. They could finally hear Mulder ranting about UFOs and government consparicies in THX surround, and get a load of Scully's body on a 15-foot screen. OK, so maybe that's not why it made it big. But the fans loved it. I, on the other hand, wasn't as impressed.

I watch The X-Files every Sunday. Some good, some bad. All very similar. The movie was a big, glorified episode. Don't get me wrong, I like the X-Files, but the movie just didn't live up to the hype. The characters acted the same, only they got to do it for longer. The Cigarette Smoking Man got to be bad, only he got to be bad longer. The Lone Gunmen, on the other hand, only got the usual five-minute stint, much less than they deserve.

It was intense, though. The special effects were nothing to laugh at, the story had plot twists, and the right place for a climax. And the characters all did a teriffic job of acting their respective parts. But, again, just a glorfied episode.

The scariest parts about the movie would probably be the special effects. Not for young children or the faint of heart. Still, nothing worse than you'd see on TV or in videogames.

It was really nothing they couldn't have just made into a two-hour long episode. Scully needed Mulder to pull her out of a situation, and Mulder needed Scully for the same reason. A good, average movie, and if nothing else, it probably got more viewers for FOX.
