The last woman to rule

Ta'wosre was the last female ruler of the 19th dynasty and the last native queen to rule until the ptolemys' Cleopatra VII. Borrowing from the past, she pulled the same coup that Hatshepsut managed, becoming regent for six years of Siptah's reign, and continuing for an additional two years. She would be ousted by Sethnakht, founder of the 20th dynasty.

In the time she was in power, her biggest achievement was the completion of her grand tomb. She was not allowed to enjoy this for long as Sethnakht decided to use it when he came to power. There is talk that she may have behaved indiscretely with the syrian chancellor, Bay (Irsu). The above coffin lid was later used by a prince. Alterations can be seen in the recarving of the wig area, attempting to make it seem male in appearance. Till today, it is unclear whom her parents were. She may have been the mother of a deceased crown prince and an adolescent daughter who's tomb and jewelry were found.
