Buffy is just another teen trying to have it all between driving stakes through
zombies' hearts. But it's tough to always be on call to save humankind, especially
when you're also trying to just have a life. | That's the premise of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" a zesty comedy-horror brew airing Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on the WB (Channel 56 rated TV-PG). On "Buffy", blood sucking and Drivers' Ed can coexist within the same amusing narrative; as can cheerleading competition and witchcraft, as on Monday's episode. But its universal relevance is that "it's based in reality," proposes Sarah Michelle Gellar. "What's more horrific than high school?" In the series loosely based on the 1992 feature film, Gellar plays Buffy as someone trying to find her place in Sunnydale High School's; after being thrown out of other schools &emdash; and trying to balance duty and self-interest. She's a teen angel in mini-skirts who occasionally turn into the 5-foot-3-inch banty Xena, kicking vampire butt while she razzes each hellhound with a crack like, "See what happens when you roughhouse?" "Buffy has a life that I can really understand," says Gellar. "You want to go to the prom but, at the same time, you have work obligations. Do you have a date, or do you go sit in the cemetery all night?" The Manhattan-born Gellar, almost 20, has acted professionally since she was a child, spending a couple of years on "All My Children" playing Kendall Hart, Susan Lucci's 15-year old daughter. She won a 1995 daytime Emmy. In one grade, she says "I had more absences in the first month than you're supposed to have in an entire year. I was telling them I had back problems and had to go to the doctor all the time." But when 'A Woman Named Jackie' aired with Gellar as the young Jacqueline Bouvier, the jig was up. At Sunnydale High, fortunately, Gellar's Buffy finds some allies: Xander (Nicholas Brendon), a outsider with a crush on her; Willow (Alyson Hannigan), a computer whiz; and the mentor-like Watcher to Buffy's Slayer, Giles, the school's veddy proper librarian, played by Anthony Stewart Head, the gentleman suitor on the Taster's Choice "romantic serial" commercials. And Head has a secret of his own about the commercials that he isn't giving up to anyone, even a fellow cast member-vampire slayer, Gellar announces, with a Buffy kind of smile. "He won't tell us what's gonna happen next!" Gellar erupts. "He KNOWS! But he won't tell us! I think that's very rude." Interview from March 17, 1997

Fans of the WB series Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be thrilled to hear
that star Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final talks to co-star in Scream II.
The original Wes Craven-directed horror film starred Neve Campbell,
Courteney Cox, and David Arquette, and Variety reports that all three
will make return appearances. They will likely be joined by Jada Pinkett,
who is in talks to take over the Drew Barrymore woman-in-distress role
in the opening sequence. Craven is again onboard to direct, working
from a script by Kevin Williamson. The 1996 film, released by
Dimension, a Miramax genre label, has earned more than $100 million
