Staci Keanan was born on June 6, 1975, and grew up in Devon,
Pennsylvania.
She has one sister, and both were raised by their parents **** and ****.
Staci's childhood was typical in that she had a golden retriever
named Wally
and a cat named Fatty. Ironically, one of her childhood fantasies was
to become
either an actress or waitress.
| Staci began her rise to stardom at the age of four, with fashion show assignments and magazine work. At age eight, she moved to New York with her mother and sister, and managed to balance both modeling and theater acting while maintaining high GPA (grade point average). Staci even won several scholastic awards, including a City of New York essay contest, and the National Language Arts Olympiad. At the same time, she branched out into commercials, voice-overs, jingles, and eventually moved to roles in television specials and mini-series. At the age of 11, Staci auditioned for the role of Nicole Bradford for the sitcom My Two Dads. The series producer, Michael Jacobs, thought her perfect for the role, and even shot a pilot episode with her. However, the NBC studio executives believed she looked "too old for the part". Apparently, even at 11 Staci appeared too mature to play the 13-year-old Nicole, so she was not guaranteed the role, and so other actresses were screened. In the end, after interviewing around 50 other actresses, the executives agreed that Staci was the best choice for the role. After she was signed (again) the role of Nicole, then head of NBC, Brandon Tartikoff, approached Michael Jacobs and said, "Gee, if we knew all along that this kid was so good, why did we have to go through all that extra testing?" It was around this time that, Staci decided that it was time to fulfill one of her childhood fantasies: create a stage name for herself. At first, she chose Staci Love, but this did not last as Michael Jacobs pointed out to her it sounded like a name for "a female mud wrestler". After pouting a bit, Staci finally agreed and searched her geneology. In her family's history, she found a "Kean," and decided to modify it into"Keanan". Staci was not your average teen. Her dressing room on the set of My Two Dads was not plastered with posters of iconic rock stars or teen heart-throbs. Instead, one wall was covered with an impassioned, graphic plea to save the sea otter. She also became a vegetarian because she couldn't stand the thought of animals being raised in confined spaces just to be slaughtered for food. Her intellect was well beyond her years as well. Some of her idols were (and still are) Jack Nicholson, Katherine Hepburn, Glenn Close and Albert Schweitzer. In fact, it is reported that on a table in her My Two Dads dressing room was a well-worn copy of Schweitzer's biography by Norman Cousins. During this time, Staci also received both the "Youth In Film Award" and 16 Magazine's "Top TV Newcomer Award" for her work on My Two Dads. Staci now lives in Los Angeles, and plays Dana Foster on the ABC sitcom Step by Step. She has starred in two feature films (Lisa, Downhill Willie) and has made it known that her goal is to continue acting and make the transition from television to the big screen.
