No one likes to admit they watch Melrose Place, Fox's
sleek prime-time soap, or that the main reason they do
so is to follow the saga of the imperious landlady
Amanda Woodward, played by Heather Locklear.
Locklear, well into her thirties, says she thought she was too
old when producer Aaron Spelling asked her to take a place
amidst Melrose's twentysomething L.A. airheads. But her
Valley Girl roots, blonde good looks, size-3 shape, and witchy
attitude were a perfect fit, and she breathed life into the
sagging series. A made-for-television star, Locklear was
Krystle's niece, Sammi Jo, on Dynasty, and Officer Stacy
Sheridan on T.J. Hooker, before her monstrous Amanda
Woodward fame. She's also a big fan of rock and roll: she
divorced from M�tley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, and is now
