Born and raised in New York City,
Brooke Shields began her career as
a child model, making her first stroll
down the catwalk at age three.
Although the first feature film she appeared in was the murder mystery
"Alice, Sweet Alice," her breakthrough came in 1977 when she
portrayed the 12-year-old prostitute, Violet, in Louis Malle's
controversial film "Pretty Baby."
| Shields grew up in front of the camera and has graced the cover of countless magazines. In addition to many top fashion publications, she was featured on Time magazine's cover and appeared on the cover of Life magazine on three different occasions. Shields has been in many films including "King of the Gypsies" with Susan Sarandon, "Just You and Me, Kid" opposite George Burns, "Endless Love," "Brenda Starr," "Backstreet Dreams" and "Running Wild" with Martin Sheen and David Keith. Perhaps her most visible role during this period was in 1979 when she appeared opposite Christopher Atkins in "The Blue Lagoon." Most recently, Shields starred with Keifer Sutherland and Reese Witherspoon in the independent feature film "Freeway," which was screened at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival. She has also appeared in a number of television movies including "After the Fall," "Wet Gold," "Legends of the West," "Nothing Lasts Forever" and "I Can Make You Love Me: The Story of Laura Black," after which Shields made a public service announcement which generated over 5,000 calls to the National Victims Center requesting assistance or information. She recently completed the television movie "The Almost Perfect Bank Robbery." In 1987, Shields graduated with honors from Princeton University with a degree in French literature. While there she discovered a love for theater and has since appeared in two regional productions of "Love Letters" and, in 1994, made her Broadway debut as "Rizzo," the leader of the Pink Ladies, in "Grease." Shields continues to lend her voice and support to issues involving children's welfare and life-threatening diseases. She divides her time between New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Brooke Shield's birthday is May 31. |
