Jet Set Satellite Work
On Their Live Show
By: Matt Mernagh
With only a few shows under their belt
Nettwerk Records latest signing Jet Set
Satellite have had to polish their stage show
in front of sold-out audiences. The band did a
few low-key warm-up dates before supporting
Serial Joe, Skydiggers and
Stereophonics. Now they are on the road
with Bif Naked for two weeks.
"We're pretty much getting started. It's our
first tour. We're really looking forward to
hooking up with a summer festival or doing
some shows of our own by then," lead singer
Trevor Jetsetter says between sips of a
sweet tasting mango drink.
While their performance hasn't been as enthusiastically received as
their video "Best Way To Die," which is presently number 22 on the
MuchMusic charts, Trevor says, "I think we've jelled quite a bit as a unit,
but there is nowhere to go but up from here. We've had a really good
reaction from the audience. It's kind of cool opening up for a band as
big
as the Stereophonics. We go in as a bit of the underdogs and hopefully
steal some of their audience." The band is recording a follow-up video
for the song "Baby Cool Your Jets" in the coming weeks as video and
radio play is the driving force behind the band.
Jet Set Satellite developed their sound in a studio environment instead
of
the traditional bar stage. The duo spent more time recording their debut,
Blueprint, than they have rehearsing for their live show. "We played as
a
three-piece for about three months. We played as a five-piece for about
a month," Trevor says.
Working out how to translate the songs from Blueprint into a live
environment was a daunting task that required Trevor and Dave
Jetsetter to hire more members. "When we started rehearsing we
weren't sure how many band members we were going to need to bring
the songs to the level we wanted live. We started off as a three-piece
and we realized that we didn't have enough sets of hands so we hired a
touring guitar player and bass player. It's a bit of challenge to work
out
the record as its layered so it was a matter of picking out four guitar
parts and making them into one cohesive part."
They are undeterred in their ambition to conquer the world of live
performance as Trevor remarks, "We're pretty happy with this record
and we want to work it. We can expect to be touring this album for the
next year or two. Weddings, parties, anything."
