The Juniper Tree
In 1987  Björk got her first acting role in the Brothers Grim based movie "The Juniper Tree", a black & white English-speaking movie about two sisters who possess witchcraft. Björk plays the younger sister Margit, who is the good witch. They have to flee because their mother has been burnt on the stake, and they suspect they can be next. They encounter a family on their journey, where the mother has died and the older sister Katla gets interested in the father of the house. But his son isn't as charmed, and with the help of Margit's powers they talk with his dead mother. The older sister thinks he is a bit too much in the way and pushes him off a cliff, but he comes back in the shape of a raven, and Margit exposes her dirty deed, which makes the father furious, and so it goes on.

Released in UK 31st May 1999

Björk, whose award winning video innovation is well documented, finally releases her long awaited compilation. Volumen, spans her entire solo careers' incredible creative collaborations with such notable directors as Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and Sophie Muller. 14 videos in total, Volumen is a visual collection of her entire single releases, including the highly acclaimed track Play Dead released on the film, The Young Americans soundtrack on Island Records. The sleeve design has been produced by the photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin famous for their striking images created for the likes of Visionaire and Harpers Bazaar as well as having work on show at the Guggenheim, NYC. The art direction and graphic design was provided by M/M . Based in Paris, they have worked with the likes of Jil Sander, Martin Sitbon and Yohji Yamamoto along with a string of art institutions throughout Europe. The intriguing concept for the sleeve is born out of the Björk song Unravel. A couple of opposite photographs of Björk depicting goodness and evil with the evil Björk unraveling the others' love and sucking the goodness from her, represented by strings of yarn, into her mouth.

Live At Shepard's Bush Empire
In the 1960's and 1970's, the West London neighborhood of Shepherd's Bush was perhaps best known for its significant presence in the classic mod film QUADROPHENIA. Most Brits who are not either young mod revivalists or older folks living in the past now think of the neighborhood primarily as the setting for the Shepherd's Bush Empire, one of the largest concert arenas in Great Britain. In 1998, cutting-edge Icelandic singer Bjork performed at this large venue, singing hits including "Human Behaviour," "Violently Happy," and "Isobel." This great performance has been lovingly recorded on this video -- a must for any Bjork fan.

Dancer In The Dark
The final installment in Lars von Trier's Golden Heart trilogy (which includes BREAKING THE WAVES and THE IDIOTS), DANCER IN THE DARK takes the director's original blend of heightened pseudorealism and fabricated melodrama to a dangerously intense level. The story concerns Selma (Björk), a Czech immigrant living in 1964 Washington State with her 12-year-old son, Gene (Vladan Kostic). On the verge of blindness, Selma spends her days working in a factory, as well as performing other odd jobs, in order to save up enough money to pay for an operation that will cure Gene of the same disease. To pass the time, Selma fantasizes that her own life is a musical, one in which her friends join her in sweeping song-and-dance routines. After her neighbor Bill (David Morse) discovers Selma's hidden savings and steals them from her, she is forced to perform an act of salvation that will condemn her forever. As the innocent Selma, Björk is one of the most fragile and heartbreaking presences the screen has ever seen. Her unbearably moving performance is enough to keep the viewer mesmerized throughout, even amid the story gaps and inconsistencies. Featuring compassionate supporting turns by Catherine Deneuve and Peter Stormare, DANCER IN THE DARK is an unrelenting gut punch that will have sympathetic audiences quivering with uncontrollable emotion.

Free Tibet Video
In 1998, 20 artists as diverse as KRS-1, John Lee Hooker, and Noel Gallagher of Oasis put on a benefit concert for the Tibetan people. This film, directed by Sarah Pirozhek, documents that monumental concert and gives an account of the Tibetan people's plight and their nonviolent protest against their oppression.
