If you like the concept of witchcraft so far, here's a meditation that will give you a taste of what it's like to feel balance with the elments and the God and Goddess.
You will need to create an altar to honor the elements (air, earth, fire, and water) and the God and Goddess.
Set up a simple altar by placing a small table or slab in front of you. (you may also use the floor, but be careful of the candles.)
If you don't know any of the gods or goddesse by name, that's okay. As long as you acknowledge that a masculine and feminine supreme energy exists, you can just address them as "God" and "Goddess".
Wherever you are sitting or wherever you decide to set up your altar, find out where the four directions are in your room. You will need to use a compass for this or rely on your instinct.
Place a candle representing each direction in its appropriate place, either around you or on its proper place on the altar. NOW, each direction represents each of the four elements: East=Air...South=Fire...West=Water...North=Earth.
Place a candle in front of you representing the goddess...she will be on your left side. Next place a candle that represents the god. He will be on your right side.
Do not light candles yet.
You might want ot put some symbols on the candles or some items next to them that represents what they are. (ex. shell=water, feather=air, match=fire, rock=earth.) And don't forget the god and goddess.
Now sit in front of your new altar. This is a simple meditational exercise to find out basically if this is your cup of tea. If you do, you may feel the urge to further your quest in the knowledge and traditions of paganism and witchcraft....And if nothing else, this meditation will balance and relax you.
Before you light the candles and start your meditation, you'll need to "purify" yourself and any negativity that may be surrounding you; this may include psychic, mental, or physical negativity. You must come into this meditation with a positive attitude.
Close your eyes and picture a white, warm radiant light surrounding your body and expand it outward to the whole room...once that is done and you feel protected and purified in your white bubble, open your eyes.
Starting with the east and going clockwise, state in your mind or out loud, "east and air, be here now." (light candle) "south and fire, be here now," (ditto) "west and water, be here now." (ditto) north and earth, be here now." (ditto).
now focus on the deity candles. I usually start with the goddess, but it's up to you..."Goddess, with your love and light,be here now." (light candle)..."Lord, with your love and light be here now." (ditto).
Once you have invited the elements and deities, take the index finger of the hand you write with (dominant/projective hand) and visually draw a circle around you and starting with the east and , moving in a clockwise direction, ending in the east. You may visualize a blue sphere or line being projected from your finger and extending to the outside of your circle. This is to close your circle and protect you from any outside negative energy that may be still lingering around. It also creates a mood that you are entering a different state of consciousness, and a different atmosphere altogether.
Now just sit quietly and look at your altar. Open your mind. Look at the lighted candles and feel their different energies. In your meditation, make it a point to breathe. I know this sounds funny, but breathing is an integral part of meditation. Now close your eyes.....Imagine what it is like to be AIR. Picture the colors you would associate air with, the animals, the feelings, what its attributes might be....Do this with every element and take your time..and remember to breathe. Use all your senses with each element. This helps you become more aware of them, and more familiar. Remember to move in that clockwise direction.
After you have become familiar with the elements, move your attention to the deities. If you are male, begin with the goddess. If you are female, begin with the god. If you can, pictue what form each deity might take; what it would look like to you. If you can't picture anything, imagine what qualities or emotions might accompany that deity. Imgine being the deity you are focusing on.
Keep your mind open always! Don't force any images or feelings in your mind..let them come to you. They should all be good feelings.
When you are done, open your eyes. Feel the warmth and balance inside your circle and inside yourself. You have actually connected with the elements and deities. Think for a little bit about how you feel.
When you are done, you'll need to release the elements and deities.
Start with the last deity you invited in. Say something like " Thank you , blessed be, go in peace."....Do this with the next deity and move to the last element you invited in....Put out each candle of the energy you dismiss, but do not blow them out. Use a snuffer or wet fingers. The only way I can put this is do not use your breathe to put out a living energy ( i.e. the flame of the candle representing that energy.)
After all are dismissed, visually, with your finger, "undraw" the circle you created around yourself when you opened the circle.
THAT'S IT!
What did you think?
Being a witch is not about casting spells or having an excuse to dress all death rock etc..It's about being at balance with the elements (there is a fifth element of spirit too) and with the god and goddess. It is recognizing that all these energies reside within you and outside of you. It's about being a good person who acknowledegs energy that have eluded the norm of what we consider reality. And, among other things, it's about recognizing that all lifeforms are connected to an even larger life force.
Through Wicca we can influence change in our lives. We can control our fates and be our own masters.
