WINTERIZING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Bring a water sample to the store for a final test.

2. Lower the water level 16-18 inches below the coping: Close off the skimmer valve. Backwash the filter for 10 minutes, then set the multiport on 'waste' until the desired level is reached. CAUTION: If the water table in your area is high, please check with the store first for directions.

3. Shock the pool with _____ litres LIQUID SHOCK and add ____ bottle ALGAECIDE. The pool should be left to circulate at least an hour at this point to distribute the chemicals before winterizing the equipment.

4. Empty the skimmer line by running the pump with the skimmer valve open and the main drain valve closed. When the pump runs dry (about 2 minutes), shut off the skimmer valve and then shut off the pump. Screw the GIZZMO into the skimmer to take up ice expansion.

5. Drain the filter by removing the drain plug at the bottom. Put the multiport handle in a raised position between 2 notches. Make sure that water is draining out of the filter. If the water does not drain, you will have to blow the water out of the filter. To do this place the multiport handle on 'backwash'. Use a vacuum cleaner in reverse or an air compressor. Attach outlet of the vacuum cleaner where the backwash hose exits from the filter. Remove the pump lid. Run vacuum cleaner until no water comes out of the pump.

6. To blow the water out of the return lines, replace the pump lid and use the same setup as above, except that you place the multiport handle on 'filter' with a screwdriver under the front of the handle to hold it in a raised position. Replace the plug on the bottom of the filter. Remove the eyeballs and locking rings from the return fittings. Plug the returns off one at a time starting with the one from which the water flows first.

7. Remove pressure gauges and plugs from pump, filter and heater. Disconnect the pressure switch from the siphon loop in gas heaters. Open all valves half way (unless the equipment is below normal water level). Leave the multiport between 2 notches. If the pump is outdoors, it is suggested that the motor (or pump) be brought inside for the winter.

8. Remove ladders and guard rails from pool. Coat them lightly with vaseline or oil. Cover walkin steps with a sheet of 3/4" plywood.

9. Fill the water bags no higher than 3 inches. DO NOT OVERFILL. Do NOT drag them on the concrete.

10. Place the cover over the pool so that it comes off the deck, straight down the wall and flat across the pool. Put 1 inch of water on top of the cover to keep it from billowing. Do not use concrete blocks, bricks, or rocks to hold down the cover. You may use 2x4's weighted with sandbags instead.

11. Store all parts and chemicals in a cool dry place where they will not freeze. Please remember where you put them!
