Isis and Her Family of Egyptian Goddesses

What other Egyptian Goddesses is Isis related to?
Isis is related to several other Egyptian Goddesses:

• Nut is Her mother
• Bast is Her daughter
• Nepthys is Her sister
• Sehkmet may be aunt to Bast

Few other Goddesses offer such a rich web of female relationships for us to study, and to reflect upon in the light of the importance of our female relationships in our own lives. Grandmother, mother, daughter, and sister appear in the Isis story, and there may even be an aunt/niece relationship between Bast and Sehkmet.

Why do you say Bast and Sehkmet are related?
I postulate an aunt/niece relationship linking the cat goddess Bast and the lion Goddess Sekhmet, because they share both a feline image and (along with Isis) a common interest in healing.

So how do these three Goddesses of healing differ?
The healing Goddesses, Isis, Bast, and Sekhmet, each have special areas of concern:

• Isis is the healer by magic, herbs and medicines. She is the Goddess for healers and all who suffer, chronic illness and desparate cases.
• Bast is the healer by listening, the healer of the human spirit. She is the Goddess for psychologists and therapists.
• Sehkmet is the healer by the blade. She is the Goddess for surgeons and for those undergoing surgery.
