Maintaining A POL Yard

The task of maintaining a POL yard actually involved several sub-tasks.  The scope of the class is that the student will demonstrate the ability to organize and maintain a safe and environmentally sound POL yard and demonstrate the skills needed to properly detect/remove water from fuel; install, operate, and maintain the 15 GPM hand pump; and stack store, and handle bulk POL products.

Main Fuel Supply Dump

Fog oil may be in the dump for a long period of time.  Fuel is normally issued from these dumps to the Forward Fuel Supply Dumps.

Drums are stored on their sides with the bungs positioned at  3 and 9 o'clock.  Place a choke or end brace at  the end of each row to keep the drums from rolling. 

 

Stacking

Drums may be stacked up to three tiers high.  If more than one row of drums is required locate the rows far enough apart so as to be able to walk in between.  There should be a 75 M seperation between gas and fog oil.


15 GPM Pump
