While visiting a friend in Washington, Doc learned of the G.I. Joe team and their mission against Cobra. With a sense of duty, he decided the military was to be his next challenge. Doc hoped for a guarantee of a G.I. Joe assignment upon enlistment, but he was told flatly that the military made no such deals. Doc enlisted anyway and achieved his goal through ordinary channels. While with the Joes, Doc has overcome all challenges, performing exceptionally well on rescue missions, battlefield situations, and even surviving a period of internment from Cobra.
