HISTORIC RADAR TYPES
AN/FPS-8 & AN/GPS-3 Surveillance Radars


The AN/FPS-8 and its AN/GPS-3 variant were deployed at Montauk during the period of 1955 through 1956. These medium range search radars operated in the "L-band" at frequencies of 1280 to 1380 MHz. General Electric constructed over 200 of these radars between 1954 and 1958.
