BRIDE OF THE GORIILA

1951 - BRIDE OF THE GORILLA - B/W - 65 mins

Raymond Burr, manager of a rubber plantation, kills his boss in a fight, then marries his young widow (Barbara Peyton). Keeping a watchful eye on things, an old servant woman pops something in his drink which makes him act like a gorilla. Baffled by the killings that ensue, the local police chief (Lon Chaney) eventually tracks down and kills the gorilla-man. Apart from the undeniable amusement of watching Burr labour through his transformations, this is a wearying experience set in and around an exceedingly fake jungle set. Woody Strode makes his debut as a policeman, while Herman Cohen learnt his budget-cutting trade as associate producer. Directed by Curt Siodmak.
