THE HAUNTED PALACE 1963

A good entry in the Roger Corman / Vincent Price / Poe series. It was frauduently presented as a Poe adaptation, but actually it's based on "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" by H.P Lovecraft. Joseph Curwen (Vincent Price) is burned at the stake as a warlock by the villagers of Arkham in 1765. A century later his great-great grandson , Charles Dexter Ward (also played by Price), arrives with his wife (Debra Paget) to reopen the Curwen mansion. Arkham is filled with mutants (results of the Curwen curse). The spirit of Wards ancestor takes over and Ward / Curwen, aided by warlocks (Lon Chaney Jnr and Milton Parsons), resurrects his former witch partner and prepares to sacrifice his wife on the altar hidden in a massive basement. In the end, evil triumphs. With Elisha Cook Jnr, Leo Gordon, Barbara Morris and Bruno Ve Sota..
