I DON'T WANT TO BE BORN....

This potentially interesting variation on the exorcism and demon-baby motifs is ruined by a bad script and poor direction. Having first encouraged, then rejected, the advances of a dwarf (George Claydon) in the strip club where she works, Lucy (Joan Collins) finds that her baby - which she fears may be the result of an affair with the seedy owner of the strip club (John Steiner) - is possessed. Both factors are clearly blamed on her own sexual peccadilloes she is duly punished as the dwarf, after a long delay to allow for the gruesome murders of her husband (Ralph Bates) and a doctor (Donald Pleasance), eventually kills her too. The happy ending is provided by the sexless nun Albana (Eileen Atkins) performing a boringly routine exorcism, intercut with the dwarf's death in the middle of his stage act. Director Peter Sasdy, and most of the cast seem to have lost interest quite early in the proceedings.

Caroline Munro as a stripper.
