On May 20th Robbie Knievel made his greatest jump ever, across the Grand Canyon. He cleared the Canyon while setting a new Motorcycle jump distance record of 228 feet. The Stunt was almost perfect! He had great speed, the takeoff was superb and there were no difficulties with the crosswinds during the flight. Robbie set his motorcycle about half way down on the landing ramp and appeared to have everything under control. But when he left the ramp and got onto the desert floor, he lost control while trying to negotiate the rugged terrain. He was then separated from his motorcycle as they both rolled into a hay bale before coming to a stop. Robbie was shaken up, but managed to make it to his feet and address the crowd. He was taken to a hospital in LA where x-rays revealed 2 broken ribs and a very badly sprained ankle. He was released from the hospital later that night and is fine.
