Vice President Gore was, in the 1980's and early 90's, the Senator from Tennessee. Many of us saw him on C-SPAN fighting so hard for dish-owner rights that he would lose his voice while informing other Senators of the plight of the backyard satellite dish owner.

Senator Gore passionately exhibited an interest in the TVRO industry, an industry that had little to offer in terms of political donation money.  Gore fought hard for TVRO, even though the hobby had little political pull in Washington.
