You will have an interesting sail shape, kind of like a vertical hammock, if you try to swing the Gunter spar out like a Gaff rig. "Why a ship is called 'she'. A ship is called 'she' because she's all decked out and usually pretty well stacked. She has pleasing lines from stem to stern, and there's generally a gang of men around. It's not her initial cost which breaks you, it's the upkeep. Her rigging cost a fortune, and she always looks her best in a new coat of paint. Bows and bells are standard equipment, and sometimes she wears a bonnet. There's usually a bustle about her, but she manages to show off her superstructure to her advantage. When entering home port she heads straight for the bouys. When sailing she usually knows her destination, but this is not common knowledge. When you want to attract her attention, a whistle is the proper signal. Once you really get to know her, you never want to leave her. On a balmy night, or a calm moonlit night, she can make men forget their troubles. Finally, she has as many tricks and teases as any woman and so it takes a very capable man to handle one properly." :-) Butch P14 Top Banana ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Mar 1998 10:21:30 EST From: Tri jc To: wwpotter@tscnet.com Subject: P15 for sale cheap Message-ID: <2d6881e1.350165fc@aol.com> Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - West Wight Potter Website at URL http://www.lesbois.com/wwpotter/ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Today's paper in Baltimore listed the following: 94' Potter 15 Cuddy, swing keel, 3.5 ob.blue and white sails, galv trailer, $2495 410-374-4356. Something I can trailer with my 3.3L V6 mini-van. I've had tons of experience in small sailboats (Sunfish, Hobbie Cat etc), but little in anything bigger. I am looking for something my wife and I can use for weekend trips along the Gulf coast of Texas (mostly), Alabama and Florida. I don't want to spend tons of money. I've looked at a Precision 19 (interesting at around 20K), a MacGregor (yuck even at 15K), and I've just started to look at Potters. I'm looking for advice, ideas, what to expect etc. All input would be greatly appreciated. I am especially interested in pros and cons of looking at a used instead of a new.
