Please, deity_or_power_of_your_choice, not to stimulate more discussion of tires, but the pic you enclosed shows much. Those skinny little tires are plumb scary! Although it *does* look as though one might be able to maneuver 13" wheels under there -- and there's a bunch of 13" tires that would work. In response to an earlier question, I think the Brits have to use ayr in their tyres. OK, no more! Was so busy looking at the cabin top that I completely missed the foredeck location. Several others have also cautioned about leakage around the sliding hatchway so I guess that is not a very good location. Still a bit queasy about cutting into the fiberglass but will give it a go anyway next week when we get a dry spell here in "sunny" Florida. BTW, did you use a fine tooth jig/saber saw or a circular hole-maker attachment on a hand drill? Since the foredeck has a slight rounding be sure to use a good bedding compound and tighten the screws only enough that you do not distort the deck ring...then enjoy! There are many great designs out there and you just have to find one that fits you and your lifestyle (I know that isn't what you wanted to hear). Each boat has it's good and bad points so I advise you do what I did, make up a list of these. On my list I wrote down the boat names and then on one side of the paper the good, and on the other the bad points. I also gave a value to each of these, ie. for the Capri 18 I wrote... "not enough cabin room - 5 (out of 10)." After I had all of the boats rated, I just subtracted the negitive score from the positive. I then threw the list away because by the time I had gone through all of these steps I knew which boat I: could tow with my Toyota, afford, and was available, and it didn't matter that it came out number two on my list. One thing I would advise, is that you do whatever you can to go out on as many different boats as possible. I say this, not because I don't like my P-19 (I must love her as I take her out more often then I do Peggy, my wife), but because each of us values different aspects of a boat and boating. Heck, I once met a couple who just loved their MaceyGee Power Sailor 19! If you think the 26 is a joke you should check out the 19, but they did have a point. With three teenage kids in their house, when the couple could get away they wanted a boat that could get to the anchorage fast, it had to have a "snuggly" bed, and it didn't matter how slow it sailed on the way back to the ramp. As I said before, we all have different needs. Larry ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Mar 1998 13:47:54 -0500 From: "Lars S. Mulford" To: wwpotter@tscnet.com Subject: traffic down?
