I've spent a fair amount of time searching the net, but I have been unable to find any interior pictures of these boats. I would appreciate it if someone could send some to me (don't worry about bandwidth on my side, I've got cable). Also what sort of prices should I see on used boats? I'm a newbie to sailing so any help would be fantastic! Soon (?) it will be time to repaint the bottom of my P15 for it's summer stay on the lake here in Peoria, IL. In past years I've sanded the old bottom paint (Unepoxy Plus) a bit to insure it's clean, then given the whole bottom another one or two coats. Now, my question is...do you really need to repaint the whole bottom, or can you get by with just maybr the outer foot or so? Mythinking is that sunlight won't get any farther "in" than that and so the moss won't grow there near as rapidly. Your thoughts??? Its pretty >impressive, but still way under construction... --- Yeh .. ain't it amazin' what $43 million can do for a lakeside cottage --- Trot down to your local Ace hardware store, to the paint section. Down near the floor somewhere in that area you'll find some one-gallon white poly jugs of "Paint Thinner" ... (mineral spirits) ... and in the fine print on the label you'll see mention of "Stoddard Solvent." The thinner should cost in the neighborhood of $2.25 per gallon. Stoddard solvent was used for many, many years in print shops as "type wash" .. it is a good, relatively safe solvent for general purpose cleaning. I've used it by the barrel .. that's why I recommend it. It is very similar in weight, odor, and flammability as kerosene. In fact, many frugal "live-aboard" boaters have found it makes excellent lamp oil. I've used it as such, and found it very satisfactory. With this solvent and a little 3-M scouring pad, you should be able to remove most any kind of rubber or grease or creosote marks from the vinyl rub rail on your potter. Your thoughts??? > >Steve Parsons, P15 "MR.P" You can probably get by with a touchup to the sides, just fine. That will discourage the typical "grass skirt" that grows so actively in the sunlight. Many SCUBA divers in the Puget Sound area make a good supplemental income for themselves by cleaning boat bottoms on a monthly basis... they wipe the bottoms with a scrubber sponge.. the kind in the nylon net baggie. (They do NOT use abrasive sponges, for obvious reasons!) This goes a long way towards keeping the little beasties and the algae off the bottom paint. My point is this: the little Potter is so easy to get at, that if you do notice a coating of algae slime developing on the bottom, just get out your "Dobie" sponges and wipe 'er off.
