The mail list server distributes your message to hundreds or thousands of subscribers, forcing each subscriber to download your (huge) graphic file whether they want it or not. Most DO NOT want it. These attachments also create a terrible burden for the mail list server. Additionally, the attached graphic file will be included as an attached download in our 'Digest' archive ... meaning we get the burden of the large file TWICE. In a recent case, such an attachment destroyed our #67 digest file for archival purposes. Here is how to handle the situation, courteously: Post a message to the list, advising people that a photo file is available from you, _on request_. When requested, email the file as an attachment ONLY to the requesting individual. Do NOT post it through the mail list server. If you have access to a web site, then upload your graphic to a page on that site, and then include the URL to that page in your mail list message. Others will then use that URL to browse the page and see the picture, at their leisure. Pardon this long instruction message, but it is important to try and prevent these problems. We have had several instances of this problem, despite a "header" line in every mail list message advising against this practice. So please bear with me if I continue to repeat this message for awhile, until we are all "educated" in this matter. We have learned a lot and have met a lot of neat people since we have sailed it. Now it's time for someone else to enjoy what we had. Sailing will always give us good thoughts and it may be a part of another part of our lives. Discovering this group was a big help when we needed advice or a chuckle. We will remain subscribed and still enjoy the interaction it provides. We have a wonderful boat to offer. It was outfitted with all the options available when it was new, and we have added and replaced items needed. The boat is a 1986-19' West Wight Potter #352. Hull is white with orange pin-stripes. Mine arrived without a shackle for the tack of the jib, but there was a small block pinned to the rear hole on the bow plate. I assume the forestay attaches to the front hole in the bow plate with the tack of the jib to be shackled to the rear hole, so where do I attach the block for the downhaul. Should I pin it to the bowplate with the same pin for the tack of the jib? Just curious how others have done it. Thanks in advance. Here's how I did it: I put a small harken block on a Helm rail-mount padeye off of the bow pulpit. It works great! Its great not having to send my wife or myself on deck, and greatly simplifies singlehanding. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Mar 1998 21:19:07 -0500 From: "Phlz Fan" To: "Potter, e-mail list" Subject: tides Message-ID: <000501bd52dd$6f3164c0$42f3eecd@ultimate-gamer> Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - West Wight Potter Website at URL http://www.lesbois.com/wwpotter/ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Does anyone out there know of a source for tide tables on the Internet? The line runs up the forestay thru the jib hanks to the head. I then thread the (other end of the) line back around the bow pulpit (to keep it out of the way) and aft toward the cockpit railing where it threads upward to the hand hold on the cabin top. This makes it easy to get to from the cockpit, but doesn't interfere with the jib halyard (I have my halyards led to the aftmost part of the cabin top; cleats are bolted to the teak that forms the hatch slide). > ---------- > From: theodore Bittner[SMTP:tbittn01@sprynet.com] > Sent: Wednesday, March 18, 1998 6:38 PM > To: wwpotter@tscnet.com > Subject: Re: Jib Downhaul > > - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - > West Wight Potter Website at URL > http://www.lesbois.com/wwpotter/ > - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - > Hello all, I hate to ask this as I'm sure it has been discussed > here > before, but could someone please tell me how they have their jib > downhaul rigged on a P-19. A small daysailer can be fun, and more of an adrenalin rush, but after you are wet and tired about all that you feel like doing is heading back to the dock. A Potter, with it's cabin and motor, gives you the freedom of multi-day trips. This is just the thing for a couple of friends to take off in for a weekend (or longer) of messing about on the local body of water. Add to this that the Potter is not only a fun little sail boat, but it also makes a great fishing and swimming platform and you will understand why most of us 40+ year-old, 15 year olds, love our little Potters. Also, my '95 (the first year of IM) has had her share of problems, but I still love her. The great thing about a Potter (or any plastic boat) is that if you look you will be able to pick up on most problems. Unlike a car with all of it's many hidden systems, a Potter (the boat) only has three parts, the hull, the cabin liner and the deck. If you look under the hull (with the boat on it's trailer) and see it hogging off the bunks, or if the support tubes are pulling loose (like my '95) then you can assume that the hull might be a little bit thin. If you tap on the deck or transom and hear a hollow sound in places, or if the motor mount bolts are pulling through, you might have a problem with the balsa (plywood in the older boats) core. If a newer boat has been painted I would wonder what problems the paint is ment to hide. I would never buy a used boat until I set it up and checked everything out. Also, one reason that I am glad that I bought a new boat from IM is that they have stood behind their product. I can't get into everything that they have done for me, but let me just say that thanks to the great crew in Inglewood I am a happy camper.
