Boulder Police finally gained access to the house after a "lengthy wait" for the key from Chrisman Bynum and Johnson's office. They noticed that the door to the mail slot was closed and immediately wanted to know how the fire could have occurred if there was no forced entry. Jennifer Gedde, the private invesigator, later admitted to being at the house earlier that morning. She also indicated that the door to the mail slot was open and that she closed it with a towel from the kitchen.
According to Det. Gosage's report, Senior Investigator Jennifer Gedde, in the company of Bryan Morgan Esq. entered and viewed the crime scene earlier that day. They subsequently failed to report their findings to law enforcement until after the BPD picked up Colfax. According to Det. Weinheimer's report, Gedde identified herself as an investigator for Chrisman, Bynum & Johnson P.C. The report implies that Gedde was alone when she observed the crime scene and later "reported her discovery to Bryan Morgan." How much time elapsed before she notified Mr. Morgan is unknown.
